Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2025 Posted February 6, 2025 A better quiz would be "Mets who didn't have their number retired by other teams despite having conniptions over the certainty they one day would"I will start with Kazmir

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2025 Posted February 6, 2025 It looks more like the Nationals have declined the Expos history.I suspect that if Montreal gets an expansion team, they'd revive those retired numbers. I think something similar (but perhaps not exactly) happened with the Cleveland Browns. The new franchise got the history, the team that's now the Baltimore Ravens is disassociated with its past in Cleveland. It's interesting how when a team changes its name it seems much more like a fresh start than when it relocates and keeps its name. The San Francisco Giants have more of a connection to Bill Terry and Mel Ott than the Minnesota Twins do to Walter Johnson and Sam Rice.

Which is the exact opposite of what baseball did to the original Washington Senators. The new Senators (who went on to become the Texas Rangers) did not inherit the history of the original Senators.

I just looked up the Nats uniform number history and #10 is in circulation. So is #8, which was retired for Gary Carter. So do those numbers still count as Expos retired numbers, being that the Nats inherited the Expos history?
