Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 I'm going to start a Go Fund Me to help him buy out all of the unsold BATY 22 jerseys.

He's a hard worker, someone that cares about his craft, someone that cares about his winning, someone that cares about his family, someone that cares about his teammates and somebody that wants to continue to get better. That's the Mets. It sounds like the Mets. It sounds like the culture I wanted to build, be a part of. I think he's the right man for the job.”
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I wonder how the Suite thing works , probably most of these are yearly corporate leases so it's easy to give him one? Like I hope some rich guy didn't have his suite taken from him

He's not on the 26 man roster so I think he has no rights to the number, I'm kinda certain now. Anybody know for sure?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 This is like the A-Rod deal that I truly believed we were going to get in 2001, only we didn't because the pre-Cohen Mets were the Lol Mets
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Technically you are assigned a number when you're added to the 40. It sounds like they gave Soto 22 in the co tract so the team will buy out Baty if necessary
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I thought having a uniform number as part of your contract was a bit odd, but then I remember that Gary Carter was all gung ho about keeping his #8 during the negotiations for him to approve the trade that he insisted it go in the contract. Frank Cashen said later that when Carter kept talking about keeping #8 he thought he was referring to clause #8 in his existing contract and Cashen wondered what was in that clause that Gary was so hung up on. He was relieved when he realized it was just about the uni number. Supposedly the suite thing was something that the Yanx refused to concede to Soto and it may have wound up being the tipping point in favor of him choosing the Mets.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I think he probably knows how to manage his time.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 I'm surprised Stearns even got Soto, him being an American League player
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Bill has been around for years , probably an old George guy, he's been miserable since Soto signed

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Journalists shouldn't wonder, Bill Madden. They should find out.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Author Posted December 12, 2024 Juan Soto is at Citi Field wearing a Mets cap, Mets jersey with his name and the number 22.Now for baseball pants, spikes and a bat!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Tuned in, Soto sounding a little nervous ( understandable) , but seems genuinely happy , family is one of the key words I'm hearing for all parties
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Good! The hell with them!I haven't talked to any of the 2024 Yankees either. HAH!
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 https://twitter.com/snyyankees/status/1867305148369817812That's fucked up - wouldn't you think some of them would have checked in and told them they wanted him to stay ?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 It certainly seems odd to me
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted December 13, 2024 Posted December 13, 2024 I saw an article from the U.K. (the Daily Mail) pointing out concerns about Soto having developed a potbelly since the World Series ended. It may just be that he's wearing his street clothes under the uniform jersey.https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/12/13/15/93122711-14190121-image-a-111_1734102805792.jpg>
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Our first look there at 2025 jerseys getting the name-on-back font sizes restored.Unsurprisingly but sadly, however, they still have the uniform plate elements done in decals instead of embroidery.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 Spto bought Baty a souped up Lincoln Navigator for #22 https://www.mlb.com/news/juan-soto-gifts-brett-baty-a-car-for-giving-up-no-22https://www.mlb.com/news/juan-soto-gifts-brett-baty-a-car-for-giving-up-no-22
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 I believe it's a Chevy Tahoe. I saw elsewhere it costs about $80k.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2025 Posted February 20, 2025 I heard as an added bonus there were his and hers Rouchefoucauldsin the glove box! Hot dang, Christmas in February!!The thinnest water-resistant watches in the world. Singularly unique, sculptured in design, hand-crafted in Switzerland, and water resistant to three atmospheres. They can tell time simultaneously in Monte Carlo, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Rome, and Gstaad.
