Yeah, the Dodgers' main gripe about Lux was that he wasn't a good enough SS. That's at least partly why Mookie got moved over there, lack of better options.

But now they got the Korean player and signed last year's mid-season pick-up from the Cards Tommy Edman (y'all remember him?) to a Five-year deal.

iow, Lux became expendable, but not garbage. He's also kind of similar to Edman as well as India but is 2-1/2 years younger than Edman and one year to India.

The Reds have two years of control on Lux. And the other good thing about Lux to the Reds is that the Yanx were eying him.

Justin Verlander heads to the Giants, per Heyman.

I wasn't sure at the time if trading Verlander was as necessary as trading Scherzer, but we didn't miss what we gave up and there is a ton of upside still on our end.

Didn't he sort of demand a trade?

I know Scherzer definitely did. If Verlander did as well, I had forgotten it.

Rosario got a year and $2M. If you're shopping for a 2B to platoon with McNeil, the market is low.

Both Dom and Cooper played in Boston for pieces of last season. Neither were particularly successful.

I always rooted for Dom so this move is going to make that tough.

Best case scenario is if he looks good enough in the minors to force a move to another team via an opt-out or a trade.

I thought him being handed a full time job in Washington back in '23 after his big stumbles in '21 & '22 would help right his ship but he only got worse.

Still not yet 30 y/o (June) I like that he's still in there fighting.

These posts got me curious, Dom career earning are over $13 million, I guess that surprised me , but he's been around a whole too

He needs Chili Davis to work with him. Nobody else could get anything out of him.

He put up All-Star/MVP numbers for a 400 PA stretch between 2019 and 2020. That's a significant period of time. At the time he attributed much of that jump to addressing his sleep apnea. Problem is he's basically been unplayable since then. I've never seen any explanation or injury to attest that to. Just went into the tank.

A lot of our hopes and dreams in 2021 died with Dom Smith and Michael Conforto falling off a cliff.

After his good (if brief) 2020 season [993/162 OPS/OPS+, 13th in MVP voting] Dom (retroactively) claimed to have played injured for much of '21 although I don't remember the specific ailment. Some of that might have been due to outside (team) pressure but a lot, he said, was internal, that he simply felt an obligation to 'play through' whatever was bugging him but eventually realized it did him more harm than good and resolved not to make that same mistake again.

But while presumably healthy the next year, by '22 the Mets were heavily into the Alonso era meaning irregular play for Dom and mostly at unfamiliar positions even though he was the better 1B glove. That's why I thought a full time assignment in '23*, even with a declining team like the Nats, would be good for him but he simply wasn't the same hitter for whatever reason. He was one and done with Washington before splitting around 300 PA with Boston and Cincy last season.

* the 586 PAs he got with the Nats were, by far, the most of his career. That, plus the injured 2021 season, were the only ones to top 310

An interesting move: the Bjue Jays acquired Myles Straw from the Guardians -- along with taking on $11M of the money that Straw, essentially a minor leaguer at this point, is still owed -- to also get $2M of international pool money in exchange for a PTBNL or more cash.

You have to think there's no way this deal gets made if they don't have the upper hand on getting Sasaki.

If they get Sasaki say goodbye to any chance of a Guerrero trade this winter. (not that I thought there was a chance of one anyway)

Basically I don't see how any team (especially one that's not from New York or Los Angeles) would take on $11M of the contract of somebody who spent nearly all of last season in AAA (and did poorly) just to get pool money, unless that pool money is enough to lock up somebody they think is special.

Or to put it another way, this will look really, really bad if they don't lock up Sasaki.

So Santander is the same age as Pete, both had their first full season in 2019, Pete has about one more season's worth of PAs in that time (3,607 vs 3,115)

Santander has a less consistent track record although more or less the same recently. He plays the OF (not sure how well) and switch hits.

Their BAs are about the same but Pete has a 22 point lead in OBA and a 45 pt gap in SLG

Santander gets two more years than the Mets offered Pete (assuming all rumors are accurate) but settles for less per/year [approx $18/per vs $28-ish?)
