Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 Seriously Mark Vientos? Wow. You fucking rock. Agreed. 12 years. A billion dollars. Let's go.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 I dunno. I don't want Vientos to think and be emotional. One of the things he seemed best at was not thinking up there. Nothing phased him that way.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 I take nothing away from Mark Vientos, but I tend to think The Players Tribune is a great platform for agents to hook their clients up with a publicist who will work with the player to craft essays (styled after tabloid sports columns) that advance their brand, letting the world know they have the heart of a fan, putting the screws to the owners to open their purses.I didn't know his Dad was a Dominican immigrant.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 I get what he's saying. But really, for the Dodgers…after all the hoopla and parades are over, what do they do? Scatter and go home. Next year when they start playing, they are immediately last year's news. I thought of that all through the winter of 1986 and it was depressing after the euphoria
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2024 Posted October 31, 2024 I'm glad that Vientos is young, talented, and wants to be a Met. However, for all the sentiment expressed, it is money that ultimately determines what uniform(s) players wear. I believe that close to half of the players on Mets roster are free agents now. For all the "I Love the Mets", "we love each other", "what a great group of guys", "we want to finish what we started", the reality is that many of them will choose to play elsewhere next season based on the best financial offer. Money talks and all that "kumbaya - rah rah" stuff walks. It is the harsh reality of the business that is known as MLB.
