Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Gotcha! Not those kinds of memories. I'm talking about memories you may have of him until now.The reason is, David Peterson has no brand, does he?For a first-round pick I don't recall there being a lot of hype around him. He arrived just as Tim Peterson left and I briefly thought they were the same guy.Even going into this year don't know if anyone thought of Peterson as anything more than a lefthanded Megill. I had to look up where Peterson was born (Denver) and where he went to school (Oregon) cuz it all had escaped me.He needs a nickname or a car dealership pitchman job or something
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Scared the shite out of meI've been calling him Ace Peterson
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I remember how he was one of the Mets most prominent starters during the short 2020 season.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I can barely distinguish him and Megill , it's amazing actually
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 This scared the hell out of me!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 Megill is the harder thrower, which is interesting, because the one thing you expect a young first-rounder to automatically have is power. Peterson has reached 96 once or twice but he averages 93.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2024 Author Posted September 19, 2024 Megill is also fatter and has worse facial hair.I looked up Peterson on social media and can report his wifey Alex gave birth to their second kid, Josephine, recently. They also have a two year old boy. They appear to live in Long Island City.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I literally have one. Like when he was drafted they listed his height, and said something like "but doesn't throw hard for someone that size". So my first impression of him was that he was kind of a wuss. I'm thrilled he's pitching so well, but to be honest I have no idea how he's getting it done. It doesn't seem like he has great stuff. I guess he gets a lot of soft contact.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2024 Author Posted September 19, 2024 It's almost like he's "crafty," but he's too big, too inexperienced, and too young to be thought of that way

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I've got no problem telling Peterson from Megill or from anyone else.Keeping the LHP Youngs apart on the other hand ...

(But I don't know which is which, either)Later
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 We attended a game this year in which he pitched, brilliantly. That's all I got.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2024 Author Posted September 20, 2024 The Youngs are easy to tell apart. Danny's got a distinctive delivery and like Alonso and Bader he's a Gator. Alex Young has no brand but he's also not a key member of the team like Peterson.Megill has a brand too. He's got a social media mom and brother in the big leagues. Everyone knows that. Wait was Peterson the one who's family was involved in horse training?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 Naming his new baby Josephine seems a very Peterson thing, I've only ever met 50 year old Josephine's
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 20, 2024 Posted September 20, 2024 Alex Young, who isn't terrible, is built like a fullback, strong and chesty. Danny Young is more of a quarterback, slender, wiry, with long slingy limbs.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 20, 2024 Author Posted September 20, 2024 Peterson's dad was a horse trainer who died of an accidental overdose when David was a kid. Young David also dealt with a broken leg that threatened his career before it started. https://www.mlb.com/news/david-peterson-s-path-to-metshttps://www.mlb.com/news/david-peterson-s-path-to-mets

But apparently, he can.
