MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 The words "fucking abomination" come to mind. And if the games are on ESPN, I guarantee they will interview the person who designed them while the action is going on.Later

And unsurprising. What did anyone think was gonna happen as soon as MLB approved Nike logos on the unis? The slippery slope slipped to a sleeve patch. And now this. Expect a second sleeve patch next.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 regular season caps and helmets aren't sellable yet but likely up for sale once the sleeves sell out -- 7 teams have yet to add them. Mlb gets postseason helmets, plus any games in Europe. The slogan is gigantic.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Author Posted September 13, 2024 And you can currently (bottom 3rd) see the STRAUSS logo behind the plate in Philly
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 Just plain awful. And there's no reason to think it's going to stop here. I'm sure there's more, and worse, to come.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 Won't be long now they'll be taking the field like F1 and Nascar drivers
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Author Posted September 13, 2024 MLB is so proud of this move that they've kept word of it off their own website. Not a peep on mlb.com
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 It was announced this morning and proudly so. They asked me to cover it but I had way too much other work
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 Gross. They should seek out a sponsorship from Ipecac because these make me want to retch
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 What recourse is there?I don't see an effective MLB boycott about to happen, but it'll be a piece of cake to boycott Strauss.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Author Posted September 13, 2024 I'm real good at boycotting companies I've never heard of.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 I guess you can combat Strauss by buying a lot of Dickies and Carhartt wear.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 The helmet advertising will also appear on all minor league helmets for the entire 2025 season.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2024 Posted September 13, 2024 I look forward to being thoroughly disgusted by these when the Mets are wearing them this October.

The minors are gonna wear the helmet ads. Then there'll be a bullshit made up "poll" claiming that the fans love it. And then, voila, permanent year-round helmet advertising in the majors.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 I think that stuff needs to be collectively bargained. The last deal gave MLB the opportunity to sell postseason helmets.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Do any of the other major sports in the United States include uniform advertisements?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 All but the NFL
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 They'll look like Premier League Jerseys before long.It always amazes me how willing MLB is to do stupid things to turn a buck.Looks like Strauss is the German version of Carhartt work wear. Totally baseball-related.

Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 The NFL hasn't done this yet. But I'm sure it's coming. These are the people behind the practice of personal seat licenses.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 14, 2024 Posted September 14, 2024 Strauss commercials are starting to appear in my MLB.tv feed.
