The Snakes are 17-5 in August, were 17-8 in July, and 16-11 in June, so 50 - 24 since the end of May totally blows away their sub-.500 start (25-32)

I wonder if their board had a 'SELL EVERYONE' thread going around that time?

They're scoring the most runs in the NL and it's not particularly close, 5.35 RS/G a full 0.4 R/G ahead of the team in 2nd (Dodgers) and 0.59 ahead of us (5th)

Part of that is home field related so as their OPS also tops the NL their OPS+, which brings home field into play, sees them slip slightly behind LAD

And then throw in that they're currently missing a few bangers:

- Ketel Marte has been their best bat all year but we won't see his 930 OPS this week.

- a bit of an off year for 1B Christian Walker but still decent and I believe his career OPS vs the Mets is around 6,000. Either way, he's out too.

Their pitching overall is below average although that's somewhat HF influenced too. 4th most RA/G (4.65) and a 93 ERA+ [Mets = 4.53 / 96]

Their lineup is a lot less formidable with Marte, Walker, and Joc Pederson (.939 OPS but a platoon DH) not in it. We need Manaea to take advantage.

The light switch really clicked on for Jake McCarthy this year. The fact that he's in there against a lefty says a lot.

They are using deadline pickup AJ Puk a lot (0.69 ERA in 13 IP). Dylan Floro had a pair of rough outings and has been used less often.

The Mets road to the post season offers Atlanta as the path of least resistance for now anyway. Mets are pretty far behind the NL West teams

Twenty twenty-three Rookie of the Year Corbin Carroll apparently forgot who he was coming out of camp, and has been recovering his memory, slowly but steadily, as the season has progressed.

Arizona pitching coach and 1972 Met watching his pitcher getting beat around.

Y'all are missing some sweet snakehunting. Fast infield here in Arizona and the Mets are getting the ball through.

With 12 batters to the plate that inning, and six of them scoring, they're going.

Now we've got to see if Manaea stiffened up during the long layover.

Whoah, that's living dangerously but faithfully.

Manaea looks hard to even touch, but he's through five on 74 pitches, with eight strikeouts, no walks, and only one hit.

Hey, with two outs, the Diamondbacks send up Luís Guillorme!!

The third team he's played against Mets as a member of in 2024. And that's ballgame!! NO WALKS!!!

Not to throw cold water on an otherwise tidy win, but the Mets run production with the bases loaded (or even with just two runners on) continues to be almost comically bad, except it's usually not so funny.

In the big 5th inning, starting with no outs, six Mets came up with the bases loaded in a seven batter span. The results were:

K (Alonso)

Sac Fly (Winker)

...

HBP (Taylor)

Walk (McNeil)

E6 (Alvarez)

K (Lindor)

So that's six plate appearances, no hits, two Ks, and just one ball (but not a hit) left the infield.

And the gap in that seven hitter span was a (mis-played) infield single by JDM to re-load the bases so that one didn't leave the infield either.

Fortunately they got all their hitting in prior to loading the bases and that the lone hit in the subsequent sequence was followed by our long-time favorite sacks-loaded weapons, the HBP & BB, or else that big inning would have wound up a considerably smaller inning and quite possibly a different game outcome.
