ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2024 Author Posted June 16, 2024 Great time to be a Mets fan
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Mets catch the Cubs in the standings. Weren't we going to trade Alonso to them a week or two ago?Pirates also caught, but they're currently beating up on the Roxxx.Giants and Diamondbacks also within reach before the end of the day.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Down go the Cubs, 2-1 to the Cardinals! The Mets now in a three-way tie, a game and a half out of the last Wild Card slotnik! With the Diamondbacks and Giants both comfortably ahead in their games, that should be all the catching they'll do today. And the Pirates are well ahead also, so they are in a position to pull a half game back ahead of the Mets pretty soon as well. They also gain the division on the Braves and Phils!!
DocTee Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Great day at the stadium. Great win for the Mets
cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 I was at the game today. Ine if the most enjoyable days I have spent at the ballpark in years.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2024 Posted June 16, 2024 Fboy and I took in some AAA baseball today so we were also able to witness a Mets win (9-3 here). Better yet, the local promotion of the day was to give fans a chance to play catch on the field after the game. We brought our mitts and had a catch. It was great. We got in the car just in time to listen to the pen come apart in the 8th. I turned it off, came home and went to bed, hoping that my napping power would propel the Mets to victory. And, so, you're welcome.

Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Finished watching this one earlier. A quality victory. This team is so up and down, it's sending me on an emotional roller coaster! I was bullish for a long time, then I went in the complete opposite direction, but now I'm getting a little more optimistic again.I still want to see my pet group of guys traded (Alonso, McNeil, Garrett), but if the Mets push toward .500, I might actually say keep Martinez and SRF, who I've suggested trading. Martinez was brought on board to make the team competitive, and if the team is competitive then he's doing his job, so I don't see why they shouldn't keep him.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Do you really think that trading Alonso would make the 2024 Mets a better team?

Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 I'm just being strategic. I don't think Alonso has a particularly bright future, so I think the Mets should trade him while he has value. Garrett, too. He's an illusion; his WHIP is indicative of that. McNeil is just a fluff hitter when he makes contact and his anemic batting skills are dragging the team down, though his defense seems like it's better (or, at least, flashier) this year than in years past. Martinez is, right now, doing what he was called upon to do, so as long as he's doing it, I think they should keep him. But, of course, if the Mets are competitive in five weeks I'd have to rethink my entire idea, because the goal is to win, and if they're actually winning, one would rather not alter a good thing.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 5 weeks to the trade deadline. They're on a good run now, but they could be back in the dumpster by then. If so, trading Pete makes more sense. If they're on a wild card push, then they keep him. Pretty simple, and it all depends on how they perform between now and then.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Too simple a way of saying it but if Pete increases his trade value to a point at which it would be attractive to move him it's also less of a possibility because Hot Pete can carry a team for a few weeks, and a few more weeks of good ball has us in there again.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Garrett, too. He's an illusion; his WHIP is indicative of thatPerhaps. But Garrett's striking out about 37% of all batters faced and for almost all of the season, that number was over 40%. That number's more meaningful than WHIP and that's not luck or randomness.Garrett's third in the majors in K/9IP among all pitchers with at least 30 IP.https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&month=0&stats=pit&type=8&sortcol=8&sortdir=default&qual=30https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?pos=all&month=0&stats=pit&type=8&sortcol=8&sortdir=default&qual=30
