Medwick? Schofield?

I was thinking Medwick. Ducky Schofield was a lifetime .227 hitter. Not quite in the pantheon

Joe Medwick was a great uncle of a friend of mine, and he reportedly hated the name Ducky.

Actual conversation with an old-timer.

"I see you like baseball. My team was The Gashouse Gang, but that would be way before your time."

"Actually, one of relatives played for The Gashouse Gang!"

  "Wow! Really!! Who?"

    "Joe Medwick!"

"Joe Medwick was my boyhood hero!! I actually met him once!"

"You met Uncle Joe?! What was he like!!"

"I said, 'Hey Ducky, can I have your autograph?' and he said, 'Fuck you, kid!'"

Hank.

If I just heard "Hank" without context, I'd have to ask whether you meant Aaron or Greenberg, even if Aaron was clearly the best Hank.

Who is baseball's number-two Keith? Foulke? Lockhart? Mooreland?

Keith is KEITH. Anybody who thinks of another Keith when they hear the name in a baseball context is possibly an alien.

Lots of Willies in the game, but if you just say "Willie", I think everyone would know who you meant.

McCovey is to Mays as Greenberg is to Aaron.

Wilmer

Is Wilmer good enough? Iconic enough? Because if he is, then I'm going with Johneshwy.

The thread has come to its natural leveling, so ,I've been holding back but here goes

McCovey is to Mays as Greenberg is to Aaron.

Also, perhaps, as Ventura is to Youn[CROSSOUT]g[/CROSSOUT]t.

Clearly not as good, but good enough to keep you from exclusive claims on the name.

Coincidentally this afternoon my hubby and I went shopping at a little town nearby where there's a bunch of Amish stores and we stopped for lunch at the ‘Twilite Diner'
