What is the highest number of Hall of Famers who have played (for either team) in a single Mets game? I've successfully identified three instances of 6 players, and several with 5 each. Additional contributions welcome.

Can you name the HOF players who played in these games? One game per guess please.

6:

April 25, 1963: Mets at Cubs

May 4, 1963: Giants at Mets

May 16, 1964: Mets at Giants

5:

April 20, 1963: Braves at Mets

August 15, 1970: Mets at Braves

June 8, 1972; June 18, 1972; May 2, 1973; October 10, 1973: Reds at Mets (same 5 HOFers in all 4 games)

October 16, 1973: Athletics at Mets

April 5, 1983: Phillies at Mets

Possible additions to the list soon (Beltre, Wagner)

April 22, 2003: Astros at Mets

May 8, 2003: Dodgers at Mets

August 24, 2003: Mets at Dodgers

May 20, 2006: Yankees at Mets

Giants v. Mets - May 16, 1964 -- 6 -- this one's unusual because the Mets had no HOFers on this date. So for this to work out, I'm guessing that both Gaylord Perry and Juan Marichal had to have appeared in this game. Also, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Orlando Cepeda and Duke Snider.

Also, there were five HOFers in the '69 WS: Seaver, Ryan, Palmer and the two Robinsons. But all five never appeared in the same game. You can get to six HOFers if you count the two managers, Weaver and Hodges, although obviously, they didn't play in any WS games.

So Seaver and Ryan never appeared in the same Mets game? Because you have no games listed for the period 1966-1971, when they were Mets teammates. Either that, or they did appear together, but the total number of HOFers in that or those games was less than five.

All answers heretofore correct (with Perez).

Answering a question: Seaver and Ryan did appear in some games together (not many) and I did not identify any against a HOF-laden opponent such as the Mays/McCovey/Marichal Giants or the Cepeda/Brock/Gibson Cardinals.

Using the database that I have at my disposal, I've confirmed that the record is indeed six, and it's happened 11 times.

I don't want to spoil the quiz here, so I've buried the answers in a different thread: https://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=33033https://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=33033

Peek only if you're ready!

Thanks! I wouldn't count Torre (not a HOF player). Also apparently overlooked that Ashburn was in the HOF/a Met in ‘62.

Yes, Cox is a Hall of Famer for the purposes of this quiz. Or he would be from my perspective. No, he's not an "MFY Hall of Famer," because this quiz is clearly referring to Cooperstown. And there is no "MFY Hall of Fame" that includes Bobby Cox anyhow.

Deion Sanders is right out.

Me too. He's a HOFer and he played in games. I'd count the games he played in. That's how the question is phrased.

So the Seaver/Torre Mets never played the Bench/Morgan/Perez Reds?

There have only been six games in Mets history that have had three Hall of Famers playing for the Mets. In each case, it's the same set of three players.

I'll leave to to whoever cares to guess to name the three.

Glavine, Alomar, and Piazza.

2003 and 2005 were the only seasons in which there were 3 HOFers active for the Mets at the same time (and Glavine/Martinez never played in a game at the same time).

This answer could change with the election of Wagner and/or Beltran.

There's gotta be a late 90s tilt with the Braves that comes close:

Some combination of Rickey Henderson--Mike Piazza--Roberto Alomar alongside Chipper Jones--Fred McGriff--Greg Maddux--John Smoltz--Tom Glavine--Bobby Cox.

And if Wagner/Beltran/Andruw Jones make it this could be the winner.
