Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 I hope it goes without saying so that this thread pertains to non-NYM deals over the next five days, but one never knows when the conservation of threads committee will rear its ugly head.Anyway, the Angels have talked the talk about keeping Ohtani so now comes the walking the walk part of their programas they've traded their #2 & #3 prospects (a LHP and a C) to the Chisox for RH starter Lucas Giolito and RH relieverReynaldo Lopezbtw, this marks the second time that Giolito & Lopez have been traded with each other as, back in December 2016 when Giolito was one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, the two were dealt in tandem from the Nats to Chicago for OF Adam Eaton. So they can once again split the cost of the Uber ride to and from the airport.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Author Posted July 27, 2023 The good news is that they're only 4 games out of a WC slot. The bad is that there's not one but multiple teams vying for that last invite so LAA has to be better than ALL of those others down the stretch.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2023 Posted July 27, 2023 Wanna beer that's smooth? Go see the newest Brewer, Carlos Santana, traded to Milwaukee for a minor league infielder by Pittsburgh.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 It seems like Lance Lynn has been "rumored to be traded" from the White Sox since they got him.Later
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Posted July 28, 2023 Kendall Graveman, who buried the Mets last week, is headed from the White Sox to the Astros for catcher Korey Lee.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2023 Author Posted July 28, 2023 So it seems to me that the ChiSox have no one left to pitch any games for remaining two months.Maybe their position players will take turns for the rest of the season. That would be kind of cool.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2023 Author Posted July 30, 2023 So instead of the cards being dealt, the Cards have become the dealer.- 100+ mph reliever Jordan Hicks is sent to Toronto - and now the Rangers are said to be in talks to acquire LHP (and former NYY) Jordan Montgomery from StL
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2023 Author Posted July 31, 2023 * Jeimer Candelario from the Nats to the Cubs*AJ Pollack to SFG from SEA* Paul Seawald to the DBacks* Randal Grichik and CJ Cron from COL to LAA* RHP Aaron Civale to TBR from CLE
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I was considering starting a thread in the spirit of 'Juan Gonzalez Signs'*entitled 'Ohtani Moved' but chickened out.Ohtani Moved!!!Multiple reports with a few hours left on today's trade deadline that Shohei Ohtani has indicated through his interpreter that he's very moved by all the trade talk and interest by so many teams desiring his services.*dating myself
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 You should've played that card. That would've been awesome.McNeil to Houston! For those of you traveling this summer, the distance from McNeil, Arkansas, to Houston, Texas, is about 322.7 miles, or about five and a half hours.Just, you know, FYI.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 Metkiller Paul DeJong takes his venal talents to Toronto.

He struck me as the kind of guy the Mets should have targeted.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I'm having trouble believing Sewald became a closer. But good for him.

Professionally and, uh, physically. But really nice to see him.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I've been wondering if any of the Mets' young, new broadcasters is our own Gary Cohen, Jr.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2023 Posted August 1, 2023 I blame this all on Peterson and Megill for not panning out. And the WBC. That Diaz injury turned out to have a doozy of a domino effect. Or maybe Cohen inherited a deeply flawed team and Cohen was forced to mask the problems by buying an entire pitching staff. The old guys declined and the only top pitcher here before Cohen (B.C.) left and was breaking down anyways. It could've been even worse. The Mets could've signed Trevor Bauer and then re-signed Jake deGrom. Is Cohen a Mets jinx?

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2023 Posted August 2, 2023 Isn't this Cohen tactic where he's paying a significant chunk of Scherzer 's and Verlander's future salaries brilliant? If Cohen doesn't send the money, then the trades don't get made and he's stuck with declining players who he thinks won't help enough in 2024. He'll still have to pay for their 2024 salaries , but with diminishing returns. And no prospects in return. He found value in overpaid, declining old ballplayers.
