Kevin Pillar, is case you didn't know, is currently on the Braves and seeing some decent PT as Marcel Ozuna DH's often.

Tonight Pillar ran what seemed like a half mile towards the corner and, while he didn't make the catch, he did save a

game-tying HR while deflecting the ball off the top of the wall with his usual full-speed collision thrown in.

It wound up an RBI triple but the Reds tied up the Braves anyway on the subsequent AB.

Heading to Bottom 9 tied at 3 after the blown save by AJ Minter.

Baby Diaz holds the Braves scoreless in bottom 9 so they're going to the clown car rules in Cobb County, GA

(y'know, those rules that were put in strictly for Covid never to be used again)

Reds plated their ghost runner in the top of the 10th but couldn't add a second run.

And that lead, their first of the game, lasted all the way until catcher Sean Murphy hit a first-pitch walk-off 2R HR

Bullpen betrays deGrom but first place Rangers come back for the win, anyway. deGrom fans nine in seven innings and breaks Nolan Ryan's Ranger record for most K"s after first three appearances.

Part of that is from starting the season with WAS, DET, OAK (and now BOS) but, still, it's tough to argue with an 83/20 RS/RA ratio.

Among other quirks, they have more HRs (29) then total runs allowed (20).

Here in Baltimore, Ryan Mountcastle, on a night when he wasn't mounting castles, had himself a [CROSSOUT]four[/CROSSOUT]nine-RBI game last night, tying the franchise record, held by two others.

You may guess one. The second guy will probably be tougher.

What record did he break? I cant believe no Oriole ever drove in four in one game before: that would mean no Oriole ever hit a grand slam. It's too early, I'm guessing, to have set the team record for April.

Oh, I see. He drove in nine last night, not four.

I know Eddie Murray had that record. There was a Donruss Highlights baseball card memorializing Murray's feat.

Nine RBI. I don't know why I wrote four, except my dog was going nuts at the time.

Yes, Eddie Murray is one of the other record holders, and Jim Gentile another. Gentile was a terrific player but is largely forgotten (as many pre-Weaver O's are). He was one of those guys that did almost nothing after age 30.

But all three were/are Oriole firstbasemen — a lefty, a righty, and a switchy. Gentile, at 88, lived to see his record equaled twice, but still not broken.

A rarely used baseball rule, discussed here last year, was applied in last night's A's-O's game. Reliever and ex-Met Jeurys Familia was in line for the "vulture win" last night after getting the last two outs of the 7th inning but giving up the tying run in the process. The A's then scored three runs to take a lead they wouldnt relinquish for the rest of the game in the following half inning. A's reliever Chad Smith pitched the last two scoreless innings to seal the A's victory ----and was credited with the statistical pitcher's win. The official scorer determined that Familia's outing was brief and ineffective and so did not award Familia with the win that a reliever similarly situated would typically receive.

Tune in and watch Joey Lucchesi and YOUR Syracuse Mets lay a righteous pounding on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.

That's not a bad idea actually. It's a Mets game after all. Too bad they're on the road this week as it's pushing 80 degrees up here.

Answer: 1B, IF 1B (after replay overturn), BB, Sac Fly (1-0), 2 RBI 2B (3-0), RBI 2B (4-0), GO, RBI 2B (5-0), 2R HR (7-0),

HR (8-0), HR (9-0), BB, WP, FO

Bottom 1: Yanx go out 1-2-3 on 8 pitches

Braves SS Orlando Arcia to the IL with a "microfracture" of his left wrist.

The 28 y/o semi-journeyman (two 500+ AB seasons - in '17 & '19) was tapped to replace Dansby Swanson who left as a FA.

So naturally the career .245 hitter is hitting .333 with twice as many XBHs to date compared to Swanson.

Vaughn Grissom, the now 21 y/o who came up mid-year in 2022 despite almost no high-minors experience and put

up a 120 OPS+ over 150 ABs (after flirting with .400 for a time) is expected to be the replacement.

Our old friend Javy Baez has been benched by Tigers manager AJ Hinch for doing a lot of stupid things.

We really, really dodged a bullet on that one.

I've got to hand it to you, Steve. You really know how to find the folks with the bad takes.

There is a Cohen hater in an FB group that keeps trotting out the “a million tickets were sold after it was announced an agreement was made with Correa” fact, as if Correa was to be the lone major off-season acquisition, and the Mets came off a run of mid-80 win seasons, barely sniffling first place after the first few weeks of a year!

I'm pretty happy that Correa's bat had been asleep so far this season before finally waking up at Yankee Stadium, where the Twins never win.

Oh, John

He's going to have to work on that one.
