A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 We were in town for my mom's memorial service, which was Saturday evening. We flew in Friday and home Monday, so that left us with one day to have a bit of fun in Florida. My wife and daughter opted for shopping at a big outlet mall. My son and I opted for baseball, naturally. That's not a great capture, he had a big ol grin on his face for the majority of the game. This was my early birthday gift to him as he turns 18 on Friday. The guy to my son's left, and his wife, were some serious Jersey people. I told the guy he looked and sounded like he just rolled out of the Bada Bing club. He paused for a good 8-10 seconds and then went, "OK, enough of that." They were great.Condolences, brudda. Glad you were able to crack a couple smiles over the weekend anyway. The guy on your left looks like Danny McBride trying to enjoy a game as Kenny Powers.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Time for my second annual, prematurely bordering on maturely, panic stricken Spring Training post. They still haven't fucking hit.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Sure they have. It's just that a lot of players haven't been with them.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 Is the huge guy behind home plate Kevin James?
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 Didn't realize the big guy had a Braves hat on and tee shirt. Everyone knowDoug Heffernan is true to the orange and blue. 2-2 is your final today, 2:07 quickie!!
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 When Kevin James and Adam Sandler were plugging a movie they took BP at CF (?) and YS. At each park, they were given a uniform of the home team. Kevin James refused to put on a Yankees uniform. Kevin's daughter's name is "Shea".

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Has Scherzer really thrown 118 pitches or is the box score making that up?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Your final is 11-2. Max Sherzer went seven innings, striking out 12. The last two innings of shutout ball came courtesy ofZach Muckenhirn, who hopes to catch on as the second lefty and designated "Zach," andTrey McLoughlin, who struck out two despite peaking at A+ (five innings last season) so far in his career, hailing from Bridgeport, and looking like Craig Swan (if you squint).Omar Narvaez added his first homer in a Met uniform.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Mets fielding an Opening Day-type lineup today with Nimmo-Marte-Lindor-Alonso-Ruf-McNiel-Canha-Escobar-Narvaez.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Thursday seems so far away. I was going to post this in the months-old IGT (that I thought we had) but couldn't find it. #lgm #ygb #ymdyf
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2023 Author Posted March 26, 2023 The Mets finish Spring with a 10-14 record plus however many ties. I looked up their Grapefruit League record for the first time just before the last out of the last game when it occurred to me I had no idea whether they'd been primarily losing or primarily winning or neither. It'll be nice to care again.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 In other Grapefruit League action, Houston beat St. Louis 24-1.Must be a lot of guys on Houston fighting for roster spots.Later
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Unless the catcher said something we don't know about that was absurd
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 So the background to this is that pitcher Kimbrel had been called for a pitch clock violation on the previous pitch resulting in ball four.Probably mad at the call, he somewhat angrily threw the ball out of play (maybe it was the ball's fault?) then rejected the replacementball the HP ump tossed him also. Rather than throw out another ball to Kimbrel, the ump, probably thinking he was being punked at this point, opted instead to drop the next offering into Realmuto's mitt. When JTR's glove suddenly disappeared the ump must haveassumed that the backstop was also party to the ongoing act and immediately tossed him.But Realmuto wasn't looking back so it doesn't seem like he could have known when to pull the glove away if that was even his intention.I think he just probably reflexively offered his glove then, when no ball was immediately placed there, assumed the ump was going to throw it out himself as he had just done the previous time. The ump is a minor league one with 30-some replacement appearances in the majors under his belt. Not sure if this incident sendshim back to the end of the line or not but it wasn't a good look for him.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
