Steve Cohen Wants to Celebrate Bobby Bonilla Day

For me, it feels like the baseball equivalent of walking around Congress with a big, dumb balloon.

I don't think Steve Cohen should be getting too many marketing ideas from fans, other than, you know, myself.

you only do it if you can find a way to celebrate it, and celebrate bobby bonilla. otherwise you're unfairly clowning on him. and i don't think bonilla deserves that shit.

I they do, I expect the resurgence of "LOL Mets" comments.

I hope they don't.

Yeah, this. And listening to the Cohen video, it sounds like "fun" is the centerpiece and Bonilla would be in on it. It's a way to flip the tired, yearly facebook memes that all of us surely get tagged in every year. If you laugh at yourself, people laughing at you doesn't hurt anymore, right? Right???

The entire interview, conducted by Howie Rose, is worth watching/listening to (it's available via the Mets'd Up pod). Reveals a few nuggets, including the conversion of a segment of the suite level to Loge seating and hype for the coming scoreboard along with some propaganda for building an "entertainment complex" in the Citi Field parking lot.

I don't quite get all this talk about building something in the parking lot. Don't people still drive to Citi Field? Isn't there a need for parking???

If the plan is to include a multi-story parking garage as part of the project... Yuck. I'd hate to get trapped on the upper floor of the garage as the game traffic is letting out. I had that experience at Yankee Stadium after Tom Seaver's 300th win. It took me forever to get out of there.

Garages were mentioned. Cohen framed it as reimagining the geography and building destinations so people aren't all driving in and out at the same time.

All I want is a timely Woodside connection and not having to wait forever at Jamaica, but Steve probably ain't taking the LIRR.

I always thought the plans for such a thing were projected (and better

suited) for the other side of the stadium where the 'car repair and parts-

from-other-cars-redistribution' shops were. A casino, shops, a hotel and

apartments built on toxic wasteland which is passed environmentally by

under the table boatloads of cash in envelopes. I mean, c'mon!

Cohen should. celebrate Bobby Bonilla Day every year by giving some random fan a million dollars.
