Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 they're screwing them anyway by not being proactive and/or clear about plans. Yes, hurricanes can be unpredictable, but EVERYONE can see the damn thing coming, and pretending like it's all gonna be normal isn't great customer service either. It's Wednesday now, which means creative plans like trying to flex to tomorrow or starting even a few hours earlier on Friday are harder to pull off. (spoiler: TV networks don't want them to start games earlier)
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Agreed, but MLB will hold their breath and cross their fingers that a) the storms don't postpone more than one of the NYM/ATL games and when they reschedule the postponements for 10/6, any games may not be necessary. If the Mets were to play a game (or two!) on 10/6 to decide the division AND the Mets fall to the #1 WC, they would need to immediately fly home to host the first game of the WC series on 10/7, no?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Yes. All four Wild Card series are scheduled to be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 7 through 9. The Division Series begins on Tuesday the 11th.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Author Posted September 28, 2022 Tim Healey of Newsday reporting:[bLOCKQUOTE]All of these are in play for Mets-Atlanta this weekend, according to a source:* changing the Friday game from night to day* a split doubleheader Sunday* using next Thursday (Oct. 6) to make up one or two games if they are needed to decide the NL East[/bLOCKQUOTE] —-Needless to say, expecting these teams to play 1 (or 2!) games on 10/6 is completely unreasonable.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Two other options (but nobody asked me):Both teams are off tomorrow. Why not have them fly in on Thursday and start the series early? Both teams finish off their season against also-rans. Why not have the teams stick around on Monday, push back the less consequential series and finish the series late? If it's necessary or desireable that those subsequent, season-closing series include all three games, they can play a Wednesday doubleheader or add a Thursday game with no team having to turn around and fly in for a one-off.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 I get the impression that they considered and dismissed option 1.Option 2 is interesting.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 According to Mike Puma, the Mets offered to move today's game to 4 PM and play tomorrow night and ATL refused. F them.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 I think they should play through the hurricane. It might not be pretty baseball but it might be fun to watch ... y'know, from the dry, warm safety of my couch.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 I wonder if their refusal has anything to do with their rotation. They've used scrubs/call-ups the last two nights (and won anyway) so as to set up their pitchers for the Met series. Maybe a re-jiggering of the sked would have upset their plans. Just throwing out a guess.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Author Posted September 28, 2022 The Braves have also played 13 games in a row without an off day. (Insert joke here about games against Washington being a half-day off).
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Gwreck cites their argument. Unstated is that if more than one game cannot be played then the Mets would have to return to ATL on the 6th.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Not playing tomorrow, with the impending weather for Friday onward, is a travesty. I don't know why the teams have any input. It should be handed down from up on high. Oh you're off? And the stadium is not in use? Guess what, suit up, ya babies

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 it makes no sense. They need to tell the Braves: you can play tomorrow, or if the weather doesn't work out, you're going to playing them in New York.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 NOAA: 30% chance of showers on Friday, little bit of wind.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 Yeah, people tend to forget how far west Atlanta is (almost in the central time zone - closest MLB city is Cincinnati) so they'll probably be on the western edge of that'cone of uncertainty' (those seem to be about as reliable as the cone of silence) so while the weather might suck, particularly Friday, I don't believe they'll be on the path of destruction (cue Barry McGuire).
