Lotta lefties in the Pittsburgh lineup, and the bottom half of their lineup is mostly low-average, young reserves trying to get their feet wet.

Mets move Alonso in the lineup for the first time in a while.

Alonso batted second 70 times in 2019, 4 times in 2020 and 30 times last year. This is his first time in that spot this season. In 2022 so far, he's hit third 5 times and cleanup 130 times.

I think there have been some analytics that say that the 2 hole is the best place to put your power hitter. There's some good rationale for that, particularly now that a position player is in the 9 spot. Plenty of likelihood that the 2 batter will come up with runners on base, and over the course of the season, the #2 spot will get more PAs than the #4 spot.

Not that that was Buck's rationale.

I'm guessing that this is the rescheduled game?

That and a day game in September for a back-end team can make for some scarce crowding. I should have driven out.

Also, I wanted to send Escobar on Nido's double. A 30% chance of scoring, and perhaps less, would have made it worth a shot.

On the other hand, the relay man on that play would have been that alien mutant Oneil Cruz, so maybe Cora knew what he was doing.

Escobar didn't have a .30% chance of scoring

Cruz was receiving the relay right about as Escobar was reaching 3rd and he was maybe 40 feet behind 3rd base.

Here's one. He's a couple of steps into his braking and the ball's apparently in the air. You can make an educated guess as to where, but it's inconclusive. It's also not clear how many steps into braking Escobar is.

It's certainly likely that he's out. I disagree that he's automatically out by 20 feet or that he had a 0.30% chance of scoring.

This is the way we roll.

Cool to unload on the "starter" after touching up the "opener" first. It's like trying to get into the bullpen and realizing that, oh yeah, you've already gotten into the bullpen.

Cruz got the ball just as Esco was hitting 3rd. Now if he hadn't been braking he might have been two, maybe three strides past, meaning that the throw home would have reached the catcher with E.E. around the mid-point and not much more.

It wasn't the smart call to hold him, it was the only call.

It may well have been the smart call. I disagree that it was the only call.

Also, PNC park tells me that Jesus forgave errors.

I'll put it this way, it was the only call that would have kept me from blurring out: Joey, what the fuck were you thinking?!?

Low pitch count (62) for Bassitt thru 5

hegetsus dot com is an amusing url (to me).

I'm not going there, but it amuses me.

I'd be happier still if we could score runs via a series of sequential singles and doubles, instead of just taking 27 cracks at a dinger like they've been doing.
