Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Today's game with Pittsburgh postponed due to inclement weather, and rescheduled as part of a Wednesday doubleheader.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Things to do in Pittsburgh when the game is rained out:Eat sandwiches at Primanti's with the French fries on them.Uh, I can't think of anything else.A little help here.Later
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 (edited) Haven't been there in some time, but there used to be a couple of reallygood German restaurants in Pittsburgh. Something we're sorely lacking around here. Edited September 5, 2022 by Guest
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 There are lots of cool museums there
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Andy Warhol museumAny number of cafes and restaurants in Squirrel Hill. None of the restaurants are Primanti's.Mt. Washington funicularArsenal Cider near the ballpark. I've never been to that particular one, but they opened one near me in Cleveland a couple of years ago, and they're excellent.Station Square is pretty nice. Chatham University has one of the most beautiful urban campuses around.Pretty good street life and art scene, particularly around Squirrel Hill.Pittsburgh doesn't suck.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 No Pittsburgh definitely doesn't suck
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 If you feel like a drive, Falling Water and the Flight 93 Memorial are in the region
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 "Sometimes you need a rainout"I'm not sure that this is that day, but who knows.I do know that I didn't need one having missed large chunks of all three WAS games and having the day off today with a day game slated. And we know how much Buck hates them DH's
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Not seeing one pitch of yesterday's maddening loss I certainly didn't need a rainout and was looking forward to a 14-2 blowout and picking up a half gameon The Chopheads.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 Inspired by another forum's thread comment on the still closed state of Citi Field's McFadden's space, I went down a little rabbit hole on the franchise that was burgeoning at the time they went into Citi.Well, it appears the McFadden's across from PNC is the last one left!Their original one near Grand Central never reopened following the COVID caused closure in March of 2020. Even more suddenly and without any notice from them than the Citi's location. I mean the first site I got with info was from a Buffalo Bills fandom site, where a New York City chapter organizer (not only was it a BillsMafia hotspot, but major Bill events, with big names as speakers and whatnot, were held there) noticed for lease signage on it months later, with zero notice or replies from bar contacts and socials! And I've heard that there had been some shady things (I know, big shock when it comes to NYC and closures with no notice) going on with their management in recent years.I'm guessing the Pittsburgh location didn't have as direct ties as others did, but locations in Nashville, Chicago, Arizona, Philly Stanford and Vegas all permanently shuttered recently.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 This is a taste of 2023 as the Mets have an off-day next Labor Day (and Memorial Day, too),

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 I'm sure McFadden's will become a Crypto-only sports betting joint before long, and you'll be able to validate parking in the Shea Parking Garage between Citi Field and the Point72 Casino
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 5, 2022 Author Posted September 5, 2022 Is the spot gutted or do they use it for banquets and receptions and stuff?

AFAIK the interior club spaces (Delta, Piazza31, etc) are still the only places in Citi used for banquets, receptions and stuff as they've have been since 2009.My guesses are that it has to do with lease agreements, and the idea that only certain clientele can logistically take it over. Ceetar's snide remark might be closer to the truth, even with the scuttlebutt associated with McFaddens, but it will probably be something with their own brand name built into itself, rather than a mom and pop style restauranteur looking to expand into a franchise. You got a ton of overhead to think about, plus the sunk cost of literally nothing like it less than a 15-20 minute walk around. Which means pretty much zero foot traffic when there isn't an event, and that's amplified from after the Met season finally concludes through the following March.I can see the Mets throwing up their hands and using the space as a rental for events, but I doubt movements to get it back to a restaurant & bar will happen until things start happening across Seaver Way.And while it was always hopping, the crowd it attracted was a bit of a turnoff to others, especially some here. And while that shouldn't necessarily be a factor with a bar/restaurant attached to a ballpark, I can see that being part of a hesitancy in waiting for other venues to start popping up in a 5-10 minute walk radius. Get a little diversity in venues that attract different crowds to thin the heard a little and get a more eclectic. mix of your clientele.

Get a little diversity in venues that attract different crowds to thin the heard a little and get a more eclectic. mix of your clientele.I used to (sometimes), whenever some establishment would refuse to accept my large bill, tell them that the bill is legal tender and that the store was obligated to accept it, and its refusal to accept it was a violation of Federal law. I had no idea whether that was true or not, I made it up one day on the spot. It sounded believable. Eventually, I got around to looking that up and it turns out that businesses have the right to reject large bills. I had a feeling that that's how it was because McDonald's had signs in their restaurants that they wouldn't accept bills larger than $20, and I figured that it McDonald's was posting that, it had to be right, because they're so big that if they were refusing large bills without legal justification, the public would've been all over that in a flash.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 I remember, a whole buncha years ago, handing an NYC shop a $10 for a pair of 75 cent cans of soda and being rewarded with a look that said, 'what the fuck do you expect me to do with that?'. The girl I was with, who lived in and spent much more time in NYC than I, immediately recognized the meaningbeind the look and dug out something smaller before I even added up what was going on. Left on my own I would have taken the 10-spot back and spent it somewhere else.Sweden is one of those places on the leading edge of the trend towards going mostly cash-less, so best to check on specifics before visiting CPF headquartersif that pocketful of Krona will even get you in the door.

cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 PNC Park is cashless. A beautiful stadium but terrible food.Pittsburgh is a nice city with good food. No ragging on Pittsburgh.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 I went to a game in Pittsburgh in July and loved the ballpark. Would have been better had it not been overrun with MFY fans. The lines were so long that I didn't get food outside of a hotdog. I found a nice small museum near the fountain where the rivers come together.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2022 Posted September 5, 2022 I think all these stadiums are trying to go cashless after seeing the way Ben Affleck and Jeremy Renner knocked over Fenway for millions following a four game series with New York."We're going to take down the cathedral of Boston"
