Braves complete the sweep of their two game series with Boston and thus delay any further lowering of the M.N.

So the Braves will (or likely will, leading 6-2 in the 8th) chop 1.5 games off the NYM lead just since yesterday [win Friday + two wins Saturday - one NYM win]

but it'll chop three games off their remaining season and two off of ours so that blunts the hurt somewhat.



Tough game for us tomorrow while the Braves still face the Marlins.

Why is Idaho known as The Gem State?



Idaho is nicknamed “The Gem State” for the abundance of rare minerals that have been found in all corners of the state. For those who really know their trivia, you might also know that the state gem is the Star Garnet.

The Mets, by the way, have clinched the season series against the Phillies. They are 11-4 against Philadelphia, with four games remaining. Because of the new tiebreaker rules this year, the Mets' Magic Number over the Phillies, which would appear to be 37, is actually 36.

The Magic Number bypasses Montana and stops in South Dakota, hopefully for a brief stay. South Dakota was the 40th state, entering the Union on November 2, 1889.

Baseball Reference has the Phillies' elimination number (for the division title) at 35, but it's really 34 as the Mets have clinched the season series against them. I'm a little surprised that BBRef isn't accounting for that.



I also wonder why they don't include all teams in the Wild Card standings.
