None of the pitchers should hope there will be balls hit to the outfield.

Not too much range out there (now) on either side, but the Miracles' outfield defense seems a bit better.

They do have the image of him at the LF gate (and Swoboda at the RF gate). Always thought it was an underrated part of the ballpark.

Also Seaver's silhouette adorns the Bullpen Gate.

I wonder if each old-timer Met will wear a reasonably accurate throwback uni specific to the era he played in. Cohen strikes me as the guy with attention to these details. (And the budget to splurge for this).

I'm definitely not expecting mesh caps and temporary nameplates that come unstuck in a soft breeze.

The Mets in past reunions, such as at the final game at Shea, have been pretty meticulous in outfitting players in era-specific uniforms, and folks were so excited by the creamy home whites that 1960s- and early 1970s-era Mets were outfitted in that the creamies were, for a time, added to the rotation.

I have confidence that period-specific uni variety will be part of the festivities.

The calls to bring back the button-collar pullovers were ... less than deafening.

I remembered that but couldnt remember the specific occasion. I remember being totally shocked that the Wilpons would spend for something like that. And the return of the Torre era two button pullover jerseys was way cool. But I wouldn't have had Kingman wear that style. I woulda had him in the Joe Fraziers.

Wil they have a ceremony to celebrate KC's birthday?

Happy Birthday, young timer.

Initial reactions: Even though Murphy and Colon (?) are the closest to ML service, I like the Amazins.

From the photos online already, looks like it's the normal 2022 whites with a OTD patch.

I suppose it's better than the mid 1980s racing stripes that featured way too much block coloring on the numberings and nameplates that on some of the jerseys, it filled in some of them.

OE I guess Nike couldn't be bothered manufacturing various era specific threads for a one-off appearance.

For me, it's about authenticity. And accuracy. Keith Hernandez and Dwight Gooden never wore the 2002 whites. Neither did any of the other old-timers, for that matter. And just the same, I wouldn't wanna see Jay Hook come out in a Mercury Mets uniform.

Nike'll do whatever they're paid to do, (assuming that Nike is the only manufacturer that's allowed to produce throwbacks for MLB teams) so long as they're given enough lead time. The Mets had era-specific throwbacks in 2008. I don't see why not today other than that these Mets "didn't feel like it" or couldn't get their act together in time.

Or who knows? Maybe there was an issue having to do with Nike being the exclusive provider of MLB uniforms and that this particular arrangement, for reasons I can't figure out, prevented the Mets from fitting their old-timers in era specific throwbacks.

I don't know what this means. Is this a gripe about the actual racing stripe unis or a gripe about some decades old throwback version of those racing stripe unis? If it's the latter, they can make better throwbacks these days.

Example of what I meant from the mid-1980s OTD attendee unis

Not a throwback, so much as the Met uniforms the OTD attendees wore in the mid 80s through the early 1990s versions of the events.

So then what does that have to do with whatever unis today's old-timers will be wearing? BTW, that's a real ugly version of the racing stripes unis. The numbers look like they've been filled in with red crayons.

I was just going to ask the same thing.

Having them all in exact versions of today's white pinstripes, with an OTD patch, is much better than what they did in the mid 1980s with that seemingly shabbily done knock off version of what the Mets were wearing at Shea in the mid to late 1980s.

That's an extremely low bar. I'm not remotely impressed. I think the Mets missed the boat badly with this year's OTD unis if it's gonna be like you say it's gonna be. I can't believe that the Wilpons outdid Cohen in this department.

SNY also has an hour-long pre-game at 3:30 PM. I'm DVR'ng so I can watch

it another time without the commercials.
