Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 Any time a player is signed for a 10+ year contract it is followed by the statement "he will be a __________ for a long time." But history seems to contradict that belief when you consider some of the longest contracts in MLB history - Giancarlo Stanton, Robinson Canó, Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez (twice!), Dave Winfield, et al - all ended with the player on another team or retiring before the contract ended. I wonder who among the current crop of long-term contracts - Franco, Tatis, Jr., Betts, Harper, Lindor, Machado - will end their contract on their current teams.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2021 Posted November 23, 2021 I don't know if this counts as a Big Ol' Signing, but Alex Wood to the Giants for 2 years.https://www.knbr.com/2021/11/22/giants-re-sign-alex-wood-to-2-year-deal-report/https://www.knbr.com/2021/11/22/giants-re-sign-alex-wood-to-2-year-deal-report/This is one of the guys I thought could help the rotation. Small commitment, some good upside. A better option than Matz.

All of which doesn't mean they won't change teams too -- aka: the 'Shit Happens' corollary -- but it certainly increases the odds.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 There goes a lot of "SEMIEN DISCHARGE"-type puns for the 2022 tabloid showdown.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 One-time CY winner and NYY disappointment, Corey Kluber, crosses the AL East and signs with TBR

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 Kevin Gausman is off the board and headed to Toronto.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Author Posted November 28, 2021 Five years, $110 million to the Gaus house.Yeah, that's a big ol' signing.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Author Posted November 28, 2021 Gray's deal is reportedly for four years — a big ol' signing.
The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2021 Posted November 28, 2021 The free agent market is in high gear. The pitchers are going fast. Best make Stroman or Robbie Ray a solid offer. I think Cohen's infatuation with Max Scherzer means the Mets will only get one starter for the rotation (possibly none if Scherzer is adamant about remaining on the west coast).
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 Robbie Ray to the Mariners for five years. Steve Cohen could've grabbed him as a palate cleanser, but apparently you can't have everything.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Corey Seager goes to the Rangers.Dodgers and NL are losing guys, this is encouraging
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 When I first heard about Semien & Seager signing with the Rangers my first reaction was to question whether either of them could skate ... and then I realized, 'Oh, THOSE Rangers'.So how 'bout Texas coughing up nearly half a billion for a spanking new middle infield?Between that and Robbie Ray heading to Seattle, it seems like maybe the two recent ALW also-rans smell opportunity given all those Houston FAs and Oakland losses (some of it to us)..
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 MLB may be freezing transactions during their lockout, but that hasn't stopped KBO's Kiwoom Heroes from signing themselves a little Yasiel Puig.Rich Puig could not be reached for comment.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Surprising. Puig is 31 years old, immensely talented and has a career .823 OPS. Shocking that no MLB team would take a flyer on him.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Well, somebody might have if the league hadn't been shut down.If this carries on, there may be a few more guys wishing they had taken the won.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Puig is also coming off a string of stateside sexual assault accusations, at least two of which were buried until quite recently.
