Any time a player is signed for a 10+ year contract it is followed by the statement "he will be a __________ for a long time." But history seems to contradict that belief when you consider some of the longest contracts in MLB history - Giancarlo Stanton, Robinson Canó, Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez (twice!), Dave Winfield, et al - all ended with the player on another team or retiring before the contract ended. I wonder who among the current crop of long-term contracts - Franco, Tatis, Jr., Betts, Harper, Lindor, Machado - will end their contract on their current teams.

I don't know if this counts as a Big Ol' Signing, but Alex Wood to the Giants for 2 years.

This is one of the guys I thought could help the rotation. Small commitment, some good upside. A better option than Matz.

The difference with Franco and Tatis is that they're so much younger than the others who all had to wait until qualifying as a FA (or just about to) before getting those lengthy deals.

But Tatis turns 23 on New Years Day while Franco has less than half a season under his belt and won't be 21 until March.

All of which doesn't mean they won't change teams too -- aka: the 'Shit Happens' corollary -- but it certainly increases the odds.

The free agent market is in high gear. The pitchers are going fast. Best make Stroman or Robbie Ray a solid offer.

I think Cohen's infatuation with Max Scherzer means the Mets will only get one starter for the rotation (possibly none if Scherzer is adamant about remaining on the west coast).

Robbie Ray to the Mariners for five years. Steve Cohen could've grabbed him as a palate cleanser, but apparently you can't have everything.

When I first heard about Semien & Seager signing with the Rangers my first reaction was to question whether either of them could skate ... and then I realized, 'Oh, THOSE Rangers'.

So how 'bout Texas coughing up nearly half a billion for a spanking new middle infield?

Between that and Robbie Ray heading to Seattle, it seems like maybe the two recent ALW also-rans smell opportunity given all those Houston FAs and Oakland losses (some of it to us)..

MLB may be freezing transactions during their lockout, but that hasn't stopped KBO's Kiwoom Heroes from signing themselves a little Yasiel Puig.

Rich Puig could not be reached for comment.

Surprising. Puig is 31 years old, immensely talented and has a career .823 OPS. Shocking that no MLB team would take a flyer on him.

Well, somebody might have if the league hadn't been shut down.

If this carries on, there may be a few more guys wishing they had taken the won.

Puig is also coming off a string of stateside sexual assault accusations, at least two of which were buried until quite recently.

Yikes. Well then that explains the lack of interest.
