G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 The Mets are booking most of their 2021 coaching staff for travel far from Citi Field, per a tweeting Martino.Sources: Mets coaches Dave Jauss, Ricky Bones, Gary DiSarcina, Jeremy Accardo, Tony Tarasco and Brian Schneider free to seek other jobs. Hitting coaches reassigned to minors. Pitching coach Jeremy Hefner expected to remain in the organization. Mets hold a contract option on him. Hefner role and exact future still being discussed.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Wow. It's going to be busy offseason.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 It doesn't mention Quattlebottom specifically, but apparently he won't be the hitting instructor anymore but will stay in the organization. Whatever.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 So, they want to teach the kids in the minors that same hitting approach that wasn't successful in the majors this year?I always thought good results are rewarded.Doesn't make sense.Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Maybe he'll be working in the ticket booth at Binghamton.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Who will pitch to Alonso in the HR Derby?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Kind of rules out the Brian Schneider for next manager prediction.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Clearing the decks. Now get a POBO.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 This team hasn't won dick in years. Clear 'em out and start over. (Although I'm sad to see Bones go, who was almost Aljacksonian in his longevity.)
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I remember back in my bird-watching days, how thrilled I was to finally spot a tweeting martino.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I remember in my competitive, randy young days, how thrilled I was to win some dick.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Notable that, despite what has to be the most disastrous year health-wise in team history, there was no cultural bloodlust for the training staff as there has been in injury-plagued years past.Is this just a question of doing a better job of managing expectations or has blaming the trainers just gone out of vogue?
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 nobody's bothered to learn the new trainer's name is all.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8, 2021 Posted October 8, 2021 I don't see how Hefner stays. I'm fairly certain that, before the injury, he would have perfectly happy with being judged on his handling of DeGrom by the results.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2021 Author Posted October 26, 2021 No matter who manages or POBOs, Jeremy Hefner will return as pitching coach (the Mets have announced).
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 I imagine deGrom and perhaps others have at least some s(w)ay in that.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 just let deGrom player/manage then.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Hefner was the guy who most needed to go.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 They may also have decided on a GM or po'boy already and he or she is on boardwith Hefner and waiting until after World Series to make big splash announcements. That used to be a thing in MLB, unless it was the Yankees stealing back pages of course.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 I thought the traveling secretary was the flying coach?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 I'm not sure why Hefner most needed to go, but when they told everybody they were free to go job-huntin' except Hef, it more than foreshadowed his retention.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 I don't know if this was more Rojas or something about Hefner, but the Mets starters were badly under-used in terms of pitch counts and they're gonna have to get A LOT more high-quality relievers if they intend to keep under-utilizing the starters.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 The assumption I've worked from is that it was neither Hefner nor Rojas, but organizational policy. But I'd certainly put the manager ahead of the pitching coach in responsibility for the call when you're pulling a guy with less than 80 pitches expended. I never heard Hefner say anything about ups and downs.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 'organization policy'? which GM? the first, the third? the interim guy? Somebody's personal assistant? maybe they decrypted Cohen' blockchain nonsense and it said 80 so they went with it.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Somebody win the Series in 4 so we can get to the important stuff.
