James Spencer said Wednesday. The embattled GM refused to give blood or submit to a breathalyzer but underwent a field sobriety test and failed, Spencer said.He was charged and released and is due back in White Plains City Court on Thursday.Scott's arrest is the latest hit for the Metropolitans, who have been struggling on the field and reeling from a series of controversies off the diamond in recent months. The team did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.https://nypost.com/2021/09/01/mets-gm-zack-scott-busted-for-drunk-driving-in-white-plains/https://nypost.com/2021/09/01/mets-gm-zack-scott-busted-for-drunk-driving-in-white-plains/
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 So, he was dozing in his car? Parked, I assume?I've read that, legally, sleeping off a drunk inside a parked car is considered DUI, but it's always struck me as ridiculous.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 (edited) If we find out he was working under the influence in the weeks prior to the trading deadline, can we get a do-over on some of the players he passed on?As I've posted before, I believe drunk driving is a serious crime that should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. There is no excuse for it.But sleeping it off in a parked vehicle means to me that he was aware of his situation and didn't want to endanger anyone (including himself). I need more details to know if that was the case.Later Edited September 1, 2021 by Guest

But like yeah, if a cop arrests you for dozing in the bar parking lot, that's not cool. But if you're just on some random street (didn't even say if he was parked or not) , the idea that you were just sleeping it off doesn't really fly.he loses his license for 6 months, but that's probably all that happens.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 of course, I'm sure that ended before 4am. Also, we're only assuming this was booze. It could've been anything.

(in addition to the obvious dumb shit)If you're sleeping in a car and have half a bottle of whiskey sitting on the passenger seat one could argue it down to an open container and/or public drunkenness I suppose. He was toast Mets wise anyways, he just popped up early before done.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 It strikes me for the first time that Cohen lives in Stamford, so Bobby Valentine is running to be his mayor.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 its going to vary from state to state, but even if the keys arent in the ignition they can still make reasonable inferences. for example, in the bar's parking lot? maybe just sleeping it off. on the side of the high way? obviously drunk driving.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 i dunno about 'safe to say'he's gonna lose his license for 6 months, and that's probably it, legally. I mean, he might've been gone anyway, but baseball doesn't typically care about this stuff.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 Maybe he wasnt dozing it off. Maybe he fell asleep at a red light. With the motor running.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 It's something that it was a party at Cohen's hoose and all these players and team personnel were there and nobody noticed the GM in no shape to drive.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 If Cohen's party ended at 9PM and Scott was arrested at 4AM, Scott made some lengthy pit stops in between.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 I guess it depends how long he was asleep.also where he lives, if that's even "on the way" home seems unlikely.

With the motor running. The story did not say it was a RED light...Good guess anyway. Per The Athletic:Scott, 44, was discovered asleep at the wheel of his Toyota Highlander by a White Plains police officer at approximately 4:17 a.m., according to a statement from Capt. James Spencer of the White Plains police department. Scott's car was observed sitting at an intersection. He failed a field sobriety test at the scene and refused a chemical breath test, according to Spencer.https://theathletic.com/2803648/2021/09/01/with-mets-acting-gm-zack-scott-facing-dwi-charge-where-does-the-organization-go-from-here/?source=user_shared_articlehttps://theathletic.com/2803648/2021/09/01/with-mets-acting-gm-zack-scott-facing-dwi-charge-where-does-the-organization-go-from-here/?source=user_shared_article
