Just last week, the booth was telling me that a ball doesn't have to touch the line to be fair. It just has to have an arc of the ball above the line.

And i was just about to post about how,, just since the 9th inning, the Giants have had run-saving defensive plays at SS, 2nd, LF, and CF

Couldn't defend that one though.

It would likely be overmanaging, but the Mets could leave Sisco/Cisco in the game at catcher and move Zeke to first, in order to be covered against a last-minute catching emergency.

Speaking of overmanaging. Even if you lose your starter in the second and the game goes twelve innings, eight relievers is a bit much. And the worst of them is the one who had to go two innings, lost the game, and made the last out. That takes some serious short-term thinking.

AND they ran out of position players despite starting with a (big for this era) six man bench.

So, yeah, when you start with a smaller than normal bullpen and are forced into it in the 2nd, it might be worthwhile to allow one or two of them to get more than three outs, especially seeing as how every one of them put up a zero until the 9th.

Familia is our MVP - Most Vulturous Pitcher.

His book, soon available at a Barnes and Noble near you is titled "How to Blow Saves and Win Games".

And who cares?

They won!

They won!

They won the damn game!

They're beasts, I tell ya', beasts.

(I gotta' check my medications)

Attn Luis Rojas:

Under these idiotic rules, the correct strategy is for the visiting team to play for 2 runs, not 1. Please adjust accordingly.

Thanks for your cooperation.

How come we know that but the Manager, the Bench Coach, and the 6 or so other Coaches on the bench don't? No one told him, "Maz can't bunt" and "Maz is a good contact hitter and a lefty".

This is possibly the most infuriating thing about Rojas. I know we've discussed that there are components to managing that we can't possibly see or know, and for all I know Luis Rojas is great at them. (One interpretation of the is season is that the Mets are a subpar team, but through a slew of injuries, Rojas kept the team afloat/overachieving for far longer than one would otherwise expect).

But on some black letter strategic choices, he is not good. And too often we are first-guessing those choices. We know they're bad choices either before or as they are happening, and the fact that it persists is inexplicable.

With the 'Manfred Man' on 2nd rule in play, a pitcher in that situation Not blowing a save is the exception rather than the rule.

Not all of them happened in extra innings.

But, as Lefty said, a W is a W.

My point is that Familia pitched a full inning while giving up a single; a single single if you will as after that he went through Bryant, Belt, Crawford and Yastrzemski with the only runner coming via an

intentional walk and not another ball leaving the infield. Framing that as a 'Blown Save', while technically true under the Covid-ed-Up rules presently in place, is, at best misleading, and at worst is

framing facts so as to fit a predetermined conclusion.

Actually, my definition of MVP was meant as a joke.
