12:35 PM start. Good for the Reds. MLB needs more weekday games. Marcus Stroman against Jeff Hoffman (good initials and Jeff spelled the right way), a RHP. Marcus has been struggling but the Mets need him to at least go 6.

Seeing who is playing shortstop, I'm reminded of the Reds' annual Farmers' Day attraction.

I think I recall Pat Zachry winning a cow-milking contest while the poor heifer looked up from the Three Rivers turf with a face that said, "You call this shit grass?"

I was going to type Farmer Ted to see if anyone was paying attention.

By some miracle, I was paying attention. The drugs must be working.

I'm guessing the Mets want to make one or two roster moves before announcing their lineup.

Is Rojas back in the saddle today?

It was also saying "I'm here at Three Rivers in Pittsburgh. How the hell is Zachry milking me from Cincinnati?"

(snort) I'm not sleeping well. I'm suffering from Cookie Cutter Conflation Syndrome.

Call us if you too show symptoms of CCCS. You could could be entitled to a substantial settlement.

While you're waiting for today's game to start, or as something to do during commercials, I highly recommend today's edition of "Faith & Fear In Flushing".

Well, you know what they say. Grand slam is a rally killer. Dom should have grounded weakly to second base and left a few guys in scoring position.

The Wilpons would have cut up the tarp and sold it as "Game Used" Collectibles.

I think that Guillorme is going to be alright, and he's going to remember those glovefarts as the moment that transformed him into a guy who would stick.

Sadly this swanky lifestyle of mine requires me to actually work several days a week. I kept up with this one on social media and MLB gameday site while I toiled. A combined one hit shutout on getaway day? I'll take that though.

Oh and also BOOOOKS

That was lovely.

A one-hitter and it still took 2:59 but it was time well spent.

Marcus gets a six-pack of Schaefer, just what the doctor ordered.

solid way to TCB on an away-game/rubber-game/getaway-day-businessmans-special (AGRGGADBS). I don't how many of these we've lost in recent years but I'd be only mildly surprised were I to learn that it wasn't every goddamned one of them.

Yeah, that's the way to end a road trip.

Unfortunately it looks like Stro will miss his old team when the Jays come to town, but then he can open the more important five-game series against the Braves. A strong showing there can pull the rug right out from under Atlanta, because the series takes them right up to the trade deadline.

The Baseball Reference people seem to have slept late this morning. They haven't posted yesterday's box scores yet, so Schaefer voting is delayed. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
