Another 10:10 PM start. The good news is that after tomorrow's 10:10 PM start we only have to deal with 5 more of these (August).

Dom Smith gets the night off against a lefty. I guess Villar is still being "evaluated".

It's a Friday so I can gut out a few more innings tonight and tomorrow at least, knowing I have naps on the horizon tomorrow & Sunday.

Lucchesi's swing isn't half bad. It's got decent form if you put aside that he's swinging a foot below the fastball and two beats late.

The Darling/Moyer story just related sent me to BB-Ref to look a few things up.

Moyer's final season was 17 years after Ronnie's last (2012 vs 1995). Moyer is two years younger.

I just looked up Ronnie's minor league career. According to the bb-r, his first minor league stop was Tulsa, not Shreveport.

It'd be nice if Villar was available, or there were than four guys available on the bench, because Snell is looking like really tough matchup for lefties.

We have, what, two lefties? We should be okay. Should.

I know Snell's an ex-CY, and that his stuff is very good, but Christ, he's only gone 6 innings once this year-- against the damn Rockies-- and we're giving him ten pitch innings.

Yeah, he's tricky to hit, but if your team can foul off, like, one pitch per at-bat, you're pretty much guaranteed to walk, and walk lots. And he's a very different pitcher from the stretch.

I know it's traditionally “not done” given the zero

hits so far, but a bunt against the shift to get on base in a 1 run game is not simply permissible, it's arguably an imperative.

I know I was all get base runners, get base runners... but would you have given Villar the hit sign on 3-0, considering it's a 1-run game?

I've been rooting for Drew Smith to stick with this team for several years. Now that he seemingly has, I keep forgetting he's there.

This is my last gasp. Have a six mile run on tap for tomorrow and I'm fading. Hopefully the Mets can knock out a hit/run before I eat a fudge bar and zonk out.
