Will Cameron Maybin get a standing ovation when he makes his Citi Field debut? Find out tonight at 7:10 as the Mets return home, still in first place somehow, to play the Colorado Rockies in the first of a four-game series. Austin Gomber (LHP) faces Mets David Peterson (LHP).

When a lefty's on the mound you gotta find a way to get the bats of both McCann AND Nido in there!

Wow. That lineup. Makes you wonder what John Mayberry and Soup are up to, and whether their gloves are still broken in.

I feel like the 3 hole is being turned into less of a batting-order slot, and something more like a performance-art platform.

Double wow. Can we slot in Rojas' PR acumen in at first base, batting third? Because it's...

pretty offensive.

[bLOCKQUOTE]Rojas said McCann is "familiar" with first base even though he's never played there professionally.[/bLOCKQUOTE]

Like, he's a secret admirer, from afar?

This year, first base has only been a rumor to McCann.

There's a lefty on the mound tonight but JD Davis is staying in Syracuse to get more experience as a 1B while McCann plays 1B with zero experience. (Per someone else, McCann has no experience even getting to 1B this season.) Dom is a superior 1B but he's in LF in order to get Nido AND McCann in the lineup.

That is weird.

Nido and Zeke both have firstbasing experience. Zeke has significantly more, but they probably don't want his first start against a lefty.

This lineup is insane. Why aren't we using Smith at 1B, Lee in the outfield, and one of those catchers on the bench?

If we aren't going to hit, can't we at least try fielding well?

Because the idea that Dom should be playing first base because first base is Dom's best position and Dom's the best defensive first baseman among the current candidates simplifies the issue.

The issue is whether the Mets are better off with (Dom at first and (XYZ) in left)

-or-

are the Mets better off with (Dom in left and (XYZ) at first)?

Which pairing produces the best combined defensive efficiency? That's what the Mets should be trying to determine. And maybe they are.

The Mets have .137 hitters, but not any who hit home runs.

(sigh)

When Frandor signed a contract without a no-trade clause I thought it was a big deal. Maybe his

agent was like who the hell would trade for this stiff 3-4 years from now. Sign, and quick!!

The McCann HR almost makes it worse. Every batter swinging for the fences with every pitch. Once it worked. All the rest of the time it's just a bunch of guys looking like they don't know how to play baseball.

GKR said that everything can work out if they tread water until everyone gets back but that's going to take a while and they might be out of it by the ASB. Of course, who are they going to pickup at this point?
