bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 23, 2021 Posted May 23, 2021 (edited) Will Cameron Maybin get a standing ovation when he makes his Citi Field debut? Find out tonight at 7:10 as the Mets return home, still in first place somehow, to play the Colorado Rockies in the first of a four-game series. Austin Gomber (LHP) faces Mets David Peterson (LHP).https://www.mlb.com/gameday/rockies-vs-mets/2021/05/24/634056#game_state=preview,lock_state=preview,game_tab=,game=634056https://www.mlb.com/gameday/rockies-vs-mets/2021/05/24/634056#game_state=preview,lock_state=preview,game_tab=,game=634056https://www.espn.com/mlb/game/_/gameId/401227756https://www.espn.com/mlb/game/_/gameId/401227756Weather: https://www.rotowire.com/baseball/weather.phphttps://www.rotowire.com/baseball/weather.phpOdds: Money Line: NYM -125, COL +115, O/U:7.5 , LINE: NYM -1.5Game Notes:Mets: https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/upload/mlb/bvxlehygakzq5oprzejn.pdfhttps://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/upload/mlb/bvxlehygakzq5oprzejn.pdf (the 3d paragraph, about Gsellman, has a good title).Lineups:Rockies:1. Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 okay, I'm gonna go to this one.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Wow. That lineup. Makes you wonder what John Mayberry and Soup are up to, and whether their gloves are still broken in.I feel like the 3 hole is being turned into less of a batting-order slot, and something more like a performance-art platform.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Soup is batting 1.000 for the Seattle Mariners.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Double wow. Can we slot in Rojas' PR acumen in at first base, batting third? Because it's... pretty offensive.[bLOCKQUOTE]Rojas said McCann is "familiar" with first base even though he's never played there professionally.[/bLOCKQUOTE]Like, he's a secret admirer, from afar?

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Author Posted May 24, 2021 There's a lefty on the mound tonight but JD Davis is staying in Syracuse to get more experience as a 1B while McCann plays 1B with zero experience. (Per someone else, McCann has no experience even getting to 1B this season.) Dom is a superior 1B but he's in LF in order to get Nido AND McCann in the lineup.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 That is weird.Nido and Zeke both have firstbasing experience. Zeke has significantly more, but they probably don't want his first start against a lefty.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 This lineup is insane. Why aren't we using Smith at 1B, Lee in the outfield, and one of those catchers on the bench? If we aren't going to hit, can't we at least try fielding well?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 (edited) Because the idea that Dom should be playing first base because first base is Dom's best position and Dom's the best defensive first baseman among the current candidates simplifies the issue. The issue is whether the Mets are better off with (Dom at first and (XYZ) in left) -or-are the Mets better off with (Dom in left and (XYZ) at first)?Which pairing produces the best combined defensive efficiency? That's what the Mets should be trying to determine. And maybe they are. Edited May 24, 2021 by Guest
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Fun and exciting first fielding play by McCann!
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 The Mets have .137 hitters, but not any who hit home runs.(sigh)Later
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 This could be the night they get perfect-gamed. #Gomberiffic
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Fargas looks like he dislocated his shoulder.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Peterson: 2 HRs, 1 3B, and a couple outs to the wallMets: one ball out of the infield

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 When Frandor signed a contract without a no-trade clause I thought it was a big deal. Maybe his agent was like who the hell would trade for this stiff 3-4 years from now. Sign, and quick!!
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 This group of hitters is wretched. Maybin should be hitting like 11th in this lineup.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 I'm just tuning in. Whose job was it to look after Fargas?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 At least it looks like we're going to be embarrassed quickly tonight.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 At least we're getting skunked these last few games by top pitchers like Poteet & Gomber
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 22 walks in 45 innings for this guy coming into tonight.I'm not sure any of our hitters have gotten to Ball 2 yet
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 The McCann HR almost makes it worse. Every batter swinging for the fences with every pitch. Once it worked. All the rest of the time it's just a bunch of guys looking like they don't know how to play baseball.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Author Posted May 24, 2021 GKR said that everything can work out if they tread water until everyone gets back but that's going to take a while and they might be out of it by the ASB. Of course, who are they going to pickup at this point?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Well if nothing else, our CS ability is much improved this year.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Drury nullification.Wake up and make love to me!
