Did anybody have Pillar and Villar as the darkhorse Mets? I love the spark Villar, in particular, brings.

Wracking my brain here for the source of the O's allegiance for Jett (born in Philly, longtime LI resident). Weaver's niece? Secret dalliance with Eddie Murray? Secret dalliance with Eddie Murray's wife?

Matt Harvey, postgame: "Obviously, there have been so many ups and downs here at this ballpark and with this organization that I didn't really know what to expect. And what the fans gave me out there was pretty incredible. I was holding back tears. I'm not going to lie about that."

Our guy grew up, it seems.

This is *exactly* what I was hoping for. Wonderful, well-deserved standing O from the crowd, then they whack the ball all over the place on him.

I think I once knew that Ripken factoid, but that area of my memory needs Google help most days.

I guess I'm pleasantly surprised that fans in the house today weren't assholes to Harvey, but I'm a little surprised at how beloved he is years later. My feelings on him are a bit more mixed.

I mean, sure, he could be a ninny, but he played well and hard when he was here, y'know? Plus, he set an innings-pitched record for the first season back from TJ, IIRC, blowing past all the handle-with-care advice... because he's a competitor, and because that team needed it.

Joanie, part of the Rickey Club? Whodathunk.

Howie Rose, while praising the modest crowd for their salute to Harvey, was something less than generous, repeatedly delivering observations along the lines of "Well, this is who he is now."

No doubt his baseline has shifted well off of where it was at his peak, but it was clearly his least successful outing of the year.
