Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Just got back from taking my daughter to baseball practice in time to see the walk off! What was the reason for pulling Walker early?

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 (edited) You'd think the strategy would be to get the same amount of innings out of your starter because your bullpen needs to be ready for two games. Edited April 13, 2021 by Guest
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 A win is nice, hope it leads to better times ahead. What's next, after two extras they play kickball?

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Yeah, although if a hurler starting to lose his control gives up a run or two in the 5th or 6th you've got less time to make up for that. Best to get a fresh guy in before it's too late ... or something along those lines.oe: answering Willets

Just as long as the strategy isn't "I usually let my guy go 6 innings in a 9-inning game so I'll pull him after 4 in a 7-inning game."
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 Also PHing or double switching to get some offense "late" in a close game.Speaking of going to the bullpen, kudos to them for only letting the fake run score over the last three. Charge the last Phillies run to Manfred.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 You know, folks, Rob Manfred sure doesn't like to dilly-dally around. He wants to jump straight to the drama and send you on your way. Why, before he went into baseball, he was a stage director. When he did Romeo & Juliet, he just gave Juliet a free vial of poison and cut to Act 5.I tell ya folks, if he wrote the Bible, Jesus would have been entombed half-alive with a knife to cut himself free and a hot sandwich!

Dumb and dumbest. Anyway, I hate the Mets but hoorayThat makes no sense at all. I couldn't understand why Lindor was on second base. It should have been Trevor May (or a pinch runner for May) because he was in the previous spot in the batting order.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2021 Posted April 13, 2021 The rule was (hastily) put in because, unlike last season,, pitchers have to hit this year (at least in the real league) but they apparently need to be treated as fine China and can't possibly be expected to run the bases. So when the Mets double-switched the pitcher into the final out batting slot, the 'Manfred Man' (automatic runner) became the previous out which was Lindor. As I said earlier, it was a brilliant piece of strategy by Luis if intentional although I have my doubts as to whether it was.

Gjord, Ronja, and Vidar say thank you!
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Həˈlō to the TCD Staff!I get texts from Newsday's Tim Healy (as a digital subscriber) and he texted that at 9:20 and said, "Here is the early version of the backpage for the paper tomorrow.A little inside baseball for you: The first version of the newspaper starts getting printed right about now. So, this back page -- and my story about the games -- will need to be updated at least once tonight. Doubleheaders can be complicated!"
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Please keep sharing those! Newsday covers are the ones for which I don't have the most reliable sources. Robert Shields has a Twitter feed that's very useful, but he doesn't seem to share the early editions.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I asked, and this is the response I got:Tiden har kommit, sa valrossen, att prata om många saker. Av skor och skepp och tätningsvax, av kål och kungar. Och varför havet kokar varmt och om grisar har vingar. The gang in Stockholm can be pretty cryptic at times.
