Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 4, 2021 Posted April 4, 2021 Shmandy Martino with the scoop that while folks are sweating Lindor, Conforto, and Syndergaard, the Mets engaged in some https://sny.tv/articles/sources-mets-had-preliminary-extension-talks-with-jacob-degrom----here-s-what-it-meanspreliminary talks on an extension with Jacob deGrom this offseason.JdG has an opt-out after the 2022 season, so his side holds all the cards. If his arm blows up, he's got security, but if it doesn't, the Mets don't. deGrom had been represented by CAA (the agency Brodie VW founded) but is now with VC Sports Group, who played serious hardball negotiating Mookie Betts' deal. Talks are expected to be shelved until next offseason, but look for them to be heated.

But, no matter how it is dispensed, deGrom is still to earn $33.5 million this year and the same amount next year, after which he can opt out to seek further riches, or just live with another $30.5 million in 2023 and potentially $32.5 million in 2024 if the Mets pick up an option. He is always brutally correct. And it hurts.Later
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 If Jacob deGrom plays for any team other than the Mets I will throw up non-stop until he retires.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 24, 2021 Author Posted April 24, 2021 I wonder if locking in deGrom beyond 2022 hasn't passed locking in Conforto and/or Syndergaard beyond 2021 on the priority list.If it could, it would likely retroactively be made a higher priority than the Lindor extension too.
