There's an Odor about the MFYs.

There already is an odor there. That will be like flushing the toilet when your septic tank is already full.

Rays put a nice beating on Kluber and the MFYs today, coming back from a 4-2 deficit to win 10-5. Our friend Chris Mazza just pitched a scoreless 9th to finish it including a DP from Jay Bruce. That's all good

Hunter Strickland also pitched in relief...

MFYS III attendees fired baseballs from the bleachers last night to protest rooting for a club that was in the process of losing the eighth of thirteen games played thus far.

Mercy, if 5-8 makes them lose their composure, I can only hope to see how they react to 5-9.

It was a Fugly game by the home squad: lots of BBs issued, Boone started an 'Opener' seemingly for no reason other than to show that he could, errors, two-out hits allowed. Plus they were getting one-hit for much of the game by Michael Wacha.

In other words, it was a beautiful thing.

Surprise #1 (and by 'Surprise' I mean no surprise at all): the thrown balls, lots of them, came from the RF bleachers.

Question #1: Where did all the baseballs come from?

I mean, did a whole group pre-decide to bring in their own, and by own I mean BP souvenirs they previously grabbed from six year-olds, just in case the game sucked, and somehow got them all through security?

Yanx lose to TBR again today dropping them to 5-9

Of course it's wise not to make too much of this so early, it's an ugly winning percentage ("on pace for" 58 wins) but still just 4 games under .500, a gap which can disappear within a week.

And the Yanx have actually gone 5-8 thru their first 13 games three times now in the last six seasons and wound up winning 84 & 103 games the previous two times (2016 & '19).

But this time feels different somehow, the record's bad AND they look bad in the process.

The Yankees have been able to coast into the playoffs the past few seasons based on their lineup of mashers hitting a bandbox of a ballpark, only to lose to better teams in the postseason (either a 16-1 clobbering or Aroldis Chapman surrendering a walk-off homer while wearing a weird smirk on his face). This season they have to contend with the still good defending AL Champions, a vastly improved Blue Jays, and a moderately improved Red Sox in their own division. I predict they'll finish 3rd or 4th with a record close to .500.

Well, it's hard to say they coasted into post-season with 100 &103 win totals in the last two full seasons (on pace for 89 last year) but, yeah, this year has an early whiff of struggling to stay atop mount .500

It's not like you were gonna watch the game anyway but this give you less of a reason (unless you're the other half of "Faith & Fear"):

So it seems that, in addition to several other issues the Yanx have this year, that they're also probably the worst base running team in either league.

-- Hitting into DPs: 2nd Most

-- Outs made on bases: Most

-- XB Taken %: Lowest

-- SB: T-Lowest

And they just lost to their rivals 5-2 (In under three hours!!!)

Was perusing the standings this AM, noticed an L1 in the streak column for the MFYs, was confused since I knew they had a large lead before resuming action in the Colbert time slot last night. Maybe their game got suspended or…THEY LOST? SEVEN IN THE NINTH? OH BEAUTIFUL! There was a conga line scene outside Fenway in “Fever Pitch” for such a dramatic turn of events.

Though I had no rooting interest then, it brought me back to a long ago January Sunday when I got out of the car with an AFC playoff game hopelessly one-sided at the half; engaged in a family function sans TV; got back in the car with the afternoon's next playoff game underway; and heard the announcer refer to the Bills having defeated the Oilers and assumed he misspoke. No way the Oilers blew a 28-3 halftime lead.

But, of course, they did (from up 35-3 to having lost 41-38).

BTW, I did not expect to have so much fun just now typing “Oilers,” a much-missed football nickname. Just one more happy byproduct of an epic MFY loss.

This, to me, is still the reason that baseball is the greatest game. Because the Bills could have run out of time, but the Angels *couldn't.* Chapman had to get those last outs.

And I know it's not comparable, but even so, the Braves still had to get those three outs in the top of the ninth. Were we going to score eighteen runs to tie the game? No, probably not. But we *could* have. (Theoretically.)

FYI: for Sunday night, besides the option of muting Matt V. (as in vomit) and Alex (the ball-slapper) and listening to Howie and Wayne, ESPN 2 will have an alternate stats-oriented feed that has to be better.

Angels @ Yanx, in what was supposed to be the fourth game of their series, was postponed today. LAA won two of the first three.

Not sure who was supposed to pitch so not sure how this affects their rotation for the upcoming weekend.

Yanx put OF Clint Frazier on the IL with Vertigo ( or maybe with Rear Window, I wasn't paying attention) and are replacing him with Tim Locastro, that real speedy guy whom we saw with ARZ earlier in the year. The yanx traded for him the other day.
