G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Another San Diego blockbuster.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 So... their 2022 rotation will likely include Snell, Clevinger, Darvish, Lamet, and Paddack. They've gotten Clevinger, Snell, and Darvish over the last six months, and given up 2 top-100 minor-league prospects in total. The Padres have a pretty acute nose for a salary dump.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 You'd think this means one less suitor for Bauer.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 At least SD is making this all-out effort to take the division from the Dodgers at a time when they seem prepared to actually follow through on it.They did a spending spree a couple (5?) years back but at the time they were muddling along near the bottom of the pack and those attempts to go from zero to sixty in one swoop rarely work. They and the ChiSox tried the get-good-quick thing at the same time and neither worked. Nowboth changed courses and are now getting good at similar times so are properly looking to spend big so as to fill in the missing pieces.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 Snell and Darvish in the same rotation will certainly be interesting.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 Do not believe Tampa Bay made a winning trade.C Francisco Mejia has two years service time. He also stands 5'8 and is a below average framer. Ouch.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 Caratini was Darvish's personal catcher in Chicago, and presumably will remain so (although his bat has more upside than he showed last year). Davies is younger and cheaper than Darvish and actually pretty good, but he only has one year of control left. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cubs flip him into prospects.Snell's value is diminished if he really can't give you six innings on a consistent basis. Mejia is a former top prospect who has underachieved so far; he might not be a bad gamble. Luis Patiño is a top-20 prospect as well. I wouldn't sell the Rays short. They have been very good at finding value where other teams see disposable parts.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 I wonder how many instances there are of top pitchers being traded and their favorite catcher being sent along with him.I imagine there are at least a few, but R.A. Dickey and Josh Thole is the only one that jumps to mind. Carlton and McCarver doesn't quite qualify.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 I love that we were able to also throw in Nickeas.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 How good were the prospects that went to Chicago? I feel like the Mets could have matched Davies with Steven Matz.
