G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Last home game of 2020. Expecting an average crowd tonight.Michael Wacha vs Tyler Glasnow. Rays' magic number is 1. Mets' magic number is however many days until Steve Cohen takes over.

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 2020 has been more of a 'keep the tragic alive' than the magic.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Per Tim Britton and others on Twitter, paths to the playoffs:1. Win out (the hardest part)2. Phillies lose at least 2 of 3 to TB3. Brewers lose at least 4 of 6 to CIN and STL4. Giants do no better than a split in their last six against COL and SDMets would get the 8-seed on a tiebreaker.Mets win out, Phillies lose 2 of last 4 games and Marlins lose 3 of 5 last games. Amazins then grab the 6 seed.Don't forget one other possibility. Second place in the division. Obviously, the Mets have to win big,but the Marlins, who might be feeling the heat, play the Braves and the Yankees. Plus, the Mets have the tiebreaker vs. the Marlins. Tough, but doable. Might be their best path. (From Howie Rose).https://twitter.com/AmazinsNews/status/1308797461939523584/photo/1https://twitter.com/AmazinsNews/status/1308797461939523584/photo/1
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I believe. Ya gotta, right?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I think it took an improbable series of events for the Mets to win the 1999 Wild Card, didn't it?Might as well hope for the best. What other option do we have?

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 From Rotoworld - the Mets haven't stolen a base in the last two weeks.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Alonso back in the cleanup box.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Conforto back too.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 That's the lineup they should have used all year. It just ..... looks right.(except for McNeil in the outfield)Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Since this is the final home game it should be Fan Appreciation DayAll fans in attendance will rec ... wait,, nevermind.Nice start for Wacha-Flocka
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 How high can Pete's exit velo be on all those pop-ups he hits?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Has Ramos made even one play at the plate all season?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 OK that answers that question!
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 But don't know what Alonso was thinking going home with a fast runner on third.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 The more the off-site umps uphold those bang-bang calls the less often managers will risk challenging them ... and that will be a good thing.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Chad ochoseis wrote:But don't know what Alonso was thinking going home with a fast runner on third.Yeah, you gotta KNOW you've got the out in a play like that, especially early in a game. Not getting the out had the potential to set up a big inning for the Rays.Fortunately the subsequent play -- the 9-3 DP -- went our way so no further harm done.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Glasnow sure likes to smell his glove.

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 This is how it ends: With Alonso swinging at pitches that bounce on the infield grass and a multi-reliever meltdown. Bravo, 2020 Mets
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 (edited) Wow. Alonso's been just brutal this year. All. Year. Long. He's like the bad Dave Kingman at his worst with 30+ hr power* but simply unplayable when he's not hitting homers. And the homers Alonso's hitting aren't even drop-what-you're-doing Kingmanesque tape measure bombs.*adjusted over a full 162 game season. Edited September 23, 2020 by Guest
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 I'm starting to think that this one isn't going to go our way.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2020 Posted September 23, 2020 Root for the Mets to K two more two batters for 12 K's. That'll tie a MLB record for at least 12 K's in eight straight games by a team's pitching staff.
