G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 The newly resurgent Mets — the BEST 23-27 team in baseball (as well as the only) — welcome the first-place Atlanta Braves into Citi Field for the beginning of a three-game showdown that could determine absolutely nothing, but at least there won't be any small cadres of Braves fans on hand. Normally their presence, perhaps a TBS legacy, is quietly vexing.(You know what you hardly ever see outside of San Diego? Cadres of Padres.)The polar opposite pitching matchup: Max Fried (6-0; 1.98 ERA) vs Steven Matz (0-4; 8.63 ERA). Matzie will be motivated to show fellow his Steven, Cohen, that he's as reliable as any overpriced piece of metal in his collection.Or will it be Steven's last night in town?https://youtu.be/MrL-g-lkOCAhttps://youtu.be/MrL-g-lkOCA
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 If the Mets can sweep this series, they're right back in it.But I have no expectation that that is going to happen.Surprise me, Mets!
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Quick, someone tell Fried that he shouldn't pitch on Rosh Hashana against the Mets. It would be preferable to shutout a different team on Monday.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 God'll punish him. Or maybe Robinson Canó will. The polar bear hibernates tonight. But Rosario returns.

[FIMG=280]https://i04.hsncdn.com/is/image/HomeShoppingNetwork/prodfull/fan-favorite-atlanta-braves-mlb-classic-adjustable-hat-d-20190927171435153~9284261w.jpg[/FIMG][FIMG=280]https://i03.hsncdn.com/is/image/HomeShoppingNetwork/prodfull/fan-favorite-new-york-mets-mlb-cleanup-adjustable-hat-d-20190927171303667~9284046w.jpg[/FIMG]

Ronald Acuña, Jr., cfFreddie Freeman*, 1bMarcel Ozuna, dhTravis d'Arnaud, cDansby Swanson R, ssAdam Duvall, lfAustin Riley, 3bNick Markakis*, rfOzzie Albies#, ssJeff McNeil*, lfJ.D. bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Ronnie and Keith continually make excuses for these incompetent umps but if they could do their jobs better we wouldn't need replay after replay.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Matzo is back, just as we remember him. Eddie C on the radio. Long night ahead
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Alonso sits vs the lefty? Odd
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 So I'll say this for Matz ... he had a better first inning than Lugo.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Matz = 30 pitchesFried = 11
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 "And on a good day, the Ramones!"
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Hopefully Steven's last night in town.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Well at least our bullpen is well rested ...oh wait!!

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Is Rojas on crack? Why is Matz in. WTF.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 I'm guessing it's not crack.Kilo's now working on fumes, too.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Mets suck down 12-sniffle midway through four, do you know where your children are?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Does everyone who the Braves pick up on a one year deal go on to have a crazy good year, or is it only 97% of them?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Luke Jackson doing a good job with the western renegade look.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Keith is wrong. Biff Pocaroba wasn't a lefthanded hitter. He was a switch hitter.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 This game has been kind of a bummer
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 (edited) it's baseball card theater in the booth as the game itself is beyond out of hand. Gary, Keith and Ron are pulling Braves baseball cards and adding commentary on whatever Brave player they happen to be pulling. So why does Gary, who did not play MLB, have better stories than Keith or Ron? batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 (edited) Gary presents Earl Williams's '76 Topps card along with the fact that Williams beat out one-time Met, then Phillie, Willie Montanez for the 1971 rookie of the year award. The real WIlliams Met-connection story (that Gary left out) is that Braves Earl Williams and Mets Jerry Grote were almost added in to the big swap that included Felix Millan, George Stone, Danny Frisella and Gary Gentry. Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 I'm starting to lose faith in Steven Matz.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 I'm curious as to see what kind of PotG support Frazier's pitching garners.

Ron even remarked on how much he loved the card design.
