ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 Hopefully Walter can go a good five. Gsellman looks to get some workLets get the bats going boys
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Oof. This will not end well.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Especially if we don't get the pitcher's first name right.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 I prefer to call him Walter Wallet.https://www.comicstripfan.com/newspaper/g/gasolinealley/GasolineAlley19990302.jpg>
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Baseballs does not like Lockett. From the NY Post: “He's a contact pitcher — a guy that can induce some contact so can get through a lineup with fewer pitches,” Rojas said https://sports.yahoo.com/m/91f30414-409b-3b73-88f4-31ce23b3efe2/walker-lockett-set-for-crack.htmlhttps://sports.yahoo.com/m/91f30414-409b-3b73-88f4-31ce23b3efe2/walker-lockett-set-for-crack.htmlAnd a lot of that contact is brutal.Later
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 "Lockett, 26, went 1-4 with an 8.84 ERA in 13 appearances last season with the Mets."Yeesh.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Had at least one good start I can remember, but yeah, the kind of guy who needs gloves behind him and his lineup to put points on the board
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 I think Rufus and Melba are going to have a better time than we are.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Author Posted August 12, 2020 Change of plan from twitter by DiComo/RojasRobert Gsellman to start and be stretched outSo the Gman would be the #5 starter if the chips fall correctlyBy the way it is HOT HOT HOT out

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 So he becomes the #5 starter? I'm not sure I'm buying what they're gselling.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Gselly was aight as a starter if I recall correctly. His worst skill was he couldn't swing but that's no longer an issue.Just looked at the splits and they're a little better as a reliever but innings just about 50/50 in a million more appearances.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 And very quickly the Mets are down by three.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 And almost as quickly, it's a tie game again
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 And now the Mets have a 4-3 lead.Timely hitting is fun!
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 I heard the Soto home run on the radio. To Howie it was the longest he'd ever seen, said the ball "went through the E-ZPass on the Throgs Neck Bridge," worth a listen.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 This is the team the Mets have to be. If they can punch back like this once or twice, it can take so much pressure off the pitching staff.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Welcome to 2020, Wilson Ramos!!Welcome to 2020, hitting with runners in scoring position!!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Probably could have gotten another inning out of Shreve
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 I could definitely get used to the defense from this middle infield duo.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 Those two are playing defense like that and more than carrying their bats. For the moment, certainly.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2020 Posted August 12, 2020 None of the guys mentioned it but, given Freeman's propensity for walks (which they did mention), Nimmo's abandoning of his patience by going after the first-pitch w/the bases loaded to end inning #3 was ... a disappointing choice. And on that note, Freeman exits.
