G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 The Blue Jays signed Ruben Tejada to a minor league deal on January 17. His 2019 return was low-key, as were the results: six games, nine at-bats, zero hits. It will go down with Ray Sadecki's in 1977 as, "he came back?"
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 It must be so frustrating to be a AAAA player. I mean, for the rest of us, it's easy to get over the fact that we will never make it in the bigs. But for these guys, to be so close. Like if the top 30 shortstops in baseball got hit by lightning, then boom. Ruben's a major leaguer.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2020 Posted January 29, 2020 Forever conflated him with Miguel Tejada

Guest 41Forever Guests Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 No room for Tom Seaver on that team?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 I think most of us remember that Tom Seaver had a second stint with the Mets.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 Although few remember Tom Seaver's attempted comeback with the Mets in 1987. Never on the roster, but I remember him in uniform in the dugout.

We had tickets for the night we thought he was going to be back -- before Barry Lyons roughed him up in a sim game. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/e1/db/bb/e1dbbb9442ef35733366f322d7a8b4a1.jpg>

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 Maybe. But I think it was from 1987, during the time that Seaver was back with the Mets.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 In an alternate universe, where Seaver is not claimed in the free-agent compensation draft, that's a photo of two members of the Mets rotation in 1984-1985.
