While Stephen Nogosek cleared waivers and for his trouble got himself outrighted to Syracuse, Chris Mazza was claimed by the Red Sox.

Mazza wore Amazin' stirrups and socks. Beyond the hosiery, he showed a little promise here and there, keeping the Mets close in the 1969 reunion game after Matz and rain threatened to ruin the whole thing. That was Mazza's debut.

The Mets go through a lot of disappointing relievers, but still manage to let potentially decent ones slip through their fingers. I think Mazza might go in that category.

I got the sense that Mazza was the kind of guy who would serve as a kind of emotional wake-up call to the existing stiffs in the bullpen: Here's a undrafted old-school rubber-armed guy who'd run through the wall for you and not get his performance all wrapped up in palpable anxiety of how he's being deployed. Only, they didn't give him an awful lot of opportunity to demonstrate that and his performance only got him so far.

They're at least getting rid of the guys with the stupidest uni numbers.

Was darn good in the minors last season, and only mostly bad in the majors. That still qualified him as the #5 starter at the top of the offseason. In recent weeks, he fell to sixth, then seventh, then 11th. Good news for Walker Lockett and Franklyn Kilome.

I expect him to win 16 games with Boston. Get that waiver money over here pronto.

I remember looking at an early Edgy- projected 2020 roster, seeing Mazza's name as one of the starters and thinking, "Holy crap!".

My gf and I were browsing the 'celebs' you can hire on Cameo who will send out a video message to someone on your behalf. I told my gf, "Hey, It's Chris Mazza" and she said "Who?" and I said, "the dude with GREAT socks" and she knew.

Keep on stylin', Chris.

Pretty good control, decent movement on the fastballs, SEXXXY hose. He'll put up far better numbers on a team that, y'know, plays defense.
