Let's do this again with the updated list of likely candidates.

I haven't been keeping up, is Edgardo Alfonso an absolute no go at this point?

Girardi is a cut above. Perez/Bell/Shelton/Bogar are all completely acceptable.

Beltran is completely unacceptable.

I read somewhere that Girardi has already been interviewed.

What the story didn't mention was that the interview probably took place in June .....

Look, I'm going to need the transcript of the interview you've used to conclusively make this determination.

"Hi Brodie and Jeff I was a really good player and now I want to be manager but not just manager of anybody but manager of the Mets who are in New York and have a lot of extra distractions and media coverage that I would have to deal with and not only have I never been a manager anywhere not even in the minor leagues but I have not even been a coach anywhere on any level whatsoever and even though all of these other people are way way way more qualified than me I was a good player and I want to be manager so I am entitled to be manager because I was a good player so make me manager!!!!!!!"

Are you referring to that MLB Network (or maybe FOX) game this summer where Girardi could say enough raving things about the Mets?

lol okay.

first, GREAT. not really good. Second, you're implying he can't handle NY which is obviously untrue. Third, a long pedigree of grinding away in the minors is not really the mandatory track anymore, hasn't been for a bit now.

"I want someone with a track record" is not equal to "unacceptable"

If these are the choices, I want Girardi. I don't want a first time manager or a puppet for the player agent running the show, who I already don't like.

No Joe Espada?

I'm basing the choices off of actual reports of who they are considering. No mentions yet of Espada beyond fan speculation, but maybe that is because the Astros are still playing?

I guess it's kind of typical for teams to alternate to some extent, going back and forth between first-time managers and experienced guys.

Girardi's Yanquiness or not has no bearing with me. Either they think he'll do a good job or they don't.

The assumption all along, especially once became apparent that Maddon was headed elsewhere, was that Girardi and the Cubs were the perfect fit.

That Chicago guys seem to love Chicago -- JG went to HS in Peoria, then to Northwestern, and then played seven seasons on the North side -- is the basis for much of the speculation,

although Rahm Emmanuel quickly found out that his dream job (he said that being Mayor of Chicago was the one job he'd leave national politics to take) wasn't so dreamy after all so

maybe that old, 'Don't wish too hard, you just may get it', adage applies.

I think that's it, right?

(Not counting Torre, who managed the Mets before going to the Yankees.)

Willie never managed the MFYs. Only seems like he did.

Tracky is saying Girardi is most likely headed to the Phillies.
