The Mets could have used their off day to skip someone and get DeGrom an extra start (3 more instead of 2 more all on normal rest) but they apparently wont do so. Isn't this tantamount to saying the season is lost?

deGrom is lined up to pitch the WC game or any tiebreaker game on regular rest.



Now, I realize that's irrelevant unless you get there, but it seems to make sense to keep the rotation as it is, unless we think that deGrom making regular starts on short rest is more advantageous.

you need to get there first. it would be different if you were guaranteed to be one of the wildcards then sure you save him for that game

It's not even a case of short rest. They elected to give him an extra day's rest when there is an off day, rather than skip the backender.

exactly, i'm not even calling for short rest here - i dont think anyone in rotation right now is so incompetent as to warrant the additional risk that poses - just pitching your best pitcher on ordinary rest as often as you can!
