The Magazine Cover Derby has now concluded. In the final round, the competition's oldest and most iconic cover, "Casey of the Mets" prevailed over "Dwight the Great". The represents a rare loss for the 1985 version of Dwight Gooden.

The winning cover was unveiled today in the courtyard at Sweden's Royal Palace in Stockholm. The ceremony was hosted by the Prime Minister of Sweden himself, Stefan Löfven. The proud ghost of Casey Stengel was also present, as was our lovely (and somewhat confused) receptionist and reality show star Maja.

The winners of our shower curtain contest were Patrick and Cindy Lake of Emerson, Iowa. Pat and Cindy have been awarded a shower curtain featuring the winning cover. Unfortunately, they didn't thoroughly read the contest rules, and were unaware that they would have to receive a surprise visit from one of our staff photographers. It's important to read the fine print!

And here's the final bracket! Thanks to all who participated! We'll do this again in another 57 years! Mark it down now on your 2076 calendars so you don't forget!

Oh, one more thing...

The bracket looks really cool all filled in. If it were available as a poster I'd

gladly buy one and hang it in the garage.

Amazing work BG. I'm curious where the winning cover will be displayed. The lobby is already taken. And does the cover hang for 56 years until the next Derby?

It will be hanging in the Swedish Parliament Building for the next year, and then will be moved to a permanent home in the Royal Art Museum.

Thanks for asking! We've been getting a lot of tweets and e-mails asking that same question!

And I'd gladly buy that shower curtain.

Back at headquarters, we like to remind folks that, no, it's Stana Katic that looks like Maja.

If you really want a poster of this, I can send you the original unreduced image. It can be printed out at a size of 41 inches wide by 113 inches high!

Might be worth a try! I think I know someone who knows someone with large

printing capabilities. Thanks.

Hurrah, indeed.

I thought Casey talked a lot in the flesh, but he flaps his gums even more now that he's dead at the present time.

Perfect!

In a rare instance of quoting Mantle, "I agree with everything Casey just said."

Maybe I'll open the image on the TV and enjoy it that way when I want.

They don't, by chance, live on Palmer Avenue do they?

And, in the future, when someone asks who won the contest, I will simply say, "You could look it up".

Great job, again.

Thanks for all the work.

My first thought was that one of the Shirtless Michael Conforto covers is an early favorite for the next tournament but that's loser talk and there will be bigger victories and better covers ahead.

Checking in on the Tabloid Cover Derby, which is about two and a half months away.

The covers for 2019 are still accumulating, of course, but we're already guaranteed a lengthier Derby than we had in 2017, and we're closing in on 2018.

If the Mets, as we hope, play deep into October, we can challenge the totals from 2015 and 2016.

(Note: For the first time, the Tabloid Cover Derby will be using a fiscal year. Covers late from late November 2018 and the entire month of December, which missed last year's cutoff, will be eligible for the 2019 competition.)
