seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Steven Matz, who leads the league in home runs allowed, vs Julio Teheran, who's roughly 18-1 with a 1.45 ERA career at Citi Field.*This should end well.*Kidding. 6-3, 2.28 in 13 starts. Did you know he's been around since 2011? I would have said 2014, maybe 2015 at the earliest.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Are you asking for examples of how we can lose?

kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 ATL (49‑34) Julio Teheran (RHP, 5-6, 3.94)NYM (37‑46) Steven Matz (LHP, 5-6, 4.85)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Why was Rosario playing to pull in such a DP situation?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Didn't Albies' hit seem like a good DP opportunity off the bat? But Rosario was nowhere near it.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 That 1st inning was just a perfect illustration of how this season's been going.Them: Off the end of the bat - finds a hole- With a runner on 1st, and then later w/1st & 3rd, they hit two would-be GiDP balls, but neither one was at a fielderWe, on the other hand, hit line drives right at people with runners on and then fail to tag up.And then could-be big ABs end in bases-loaded K's (Dom) just as they did last night (McNeil) for our side. For their side last night's big bases-loaded AB (Camargo) ended in a bases-clearing double
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Cano keeps his streak alive of no meaningful hits, a streak which started on day 2 of the season.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 The Mets doing a terrific job loading 'em up.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 CBS back on, so guess we're close to resuming play. Mets down 2-sniffle,top of the third.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Three sniffle.Mazza has joined the bullpen party and now has one of those infinite ERAs.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 I hope Mickey finds a way to get Dom Smith some at bats.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 At Dom's current pace, if he had as many ABs as Alonso he'd be at 20+ HRs (20.168) to Pete's 28Just sayin'
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Wayne Garrett in the booth admitting he was unhappy when he batted leadoff - because, sez Garret, he wasn't a leadoff hitter. He wasnt fast enough.Crazy talk. He was a walking machine who would've led the league in walks with at least 130 of those every year if he ever got to play day in and day out. Check out his stats.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Yeah, Garrett's eye was never fully appreciated.Hell, Garrett was never fully appreciated.I thought Acuña was going to catch that double by McNelt.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Sounds like Garrett doesn't want to say what he wants to say about Yogi.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Was the booing for the third base coach not sending McNeil home? Or for Cano not driving in the run? It was a lot of booing. My sense is it was aimed at Cano.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Garrett born 30 years later would likely have been a much more appreciated player. Not just because of the later emphasis and appreciation of OBA but even legal training methods -- discouraged in his time -- would have added some meat to his skinny frame (5' 11" - 175 -- more or less my size)and I'm guessing would have made him into at least a mediocre power hitter (three highest seasons were 12, 13, and 16). A former poster here claimed he referred to him as 'Warning Track Wayne' back in the day for his propensity to not quite hit HRs.My goal, if I ever were to meet and chat with Wayne, would have been to ask him if his On-Base ability was ever a subject at contract time seeing as how those guys were on one-year deals much of the time. And, if not, if he thought it was because front offices didn't appreciate the value of that or whether they simply didn't want to pay for it. I suspect both.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Someone was appreciating Garrett's on base skills. He batted leadoff. Dave Magadan never batted leadoff. Garrett could put up top five league leading OBP numbers with batting averages in the .230s. I wonder if Garrett has the best walk rate in franchise history, maybe even better than Mags and Olerud?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Kid is fun to watch pitch. Fboy and I saw him twice this year here in the Cuse and he was lights out both times.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Mazza is delighting his gallery.(I'm playing to the Washingtonians in the crowd)
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Touki Toussaint out of the game in a double switch. This will allow him to go back to his regular job as opening act for the Neville Brothers.
