Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Did you guys hear it during the broadcast the other night? Gary Cohen says he asked Familia directly.Familia says it's pronounced Jay-ooh-Rees. Sure as hell sounded like "Jerry" when I heard him in the promo.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Nah, Gary was talking about the Pads reliever Maton, and how the best way to know how to pronounce a name is to just ask the player. He then recalled when he first asked Familia how to pronounce his name and got the Jay-oooh--Reese response. Makes sense to just ask a dude rather than guess some shit.

I *always* asked one of the opposing coaches before the game how to pronounce names, because you look like a moron getting it wrong. I distinctly remember the coach from Yeshiva one year thanking me for asking; they said I was the only PA person who'd ever actually took the time to care. Edited May 9, 2019 by Guest
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 My last name is often mispronounced as an ethnic slur. I really appreciate it when people ask rather than getting it wrong.

Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Well, I'm probably overpaid for what I do, I'm too old to be a major leaguer, and I have shoulder issues.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 Any guesses?I'm going with "Kuhn."My second guess is "Gammon."
