Playing lefty-righty, four runs down?

Say what you will for Dave Martinez-- he hasn't mentally checked out of the game.

Wander Suero sounds like something you'd get from a Tijuana pharmacy for a bad case of wanderlust.

Or a seven-run lead.

Remember last year, when the team opened 11-1, but we all suspected it was unsustainable because they were getting a remarkable number of two-out hits?

Well, I'm not thinking about that right now.

They were chanting J-e-f-f, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff for McNeil (or maybe it was Wilpon).

I heard this. I thought there were some Jets fans in the house.

This was the third 11-8 victory in Mets history. The previous two were historic:

• September 2, 1972 at Houston: Mets trail, 8-0; forge largest comeback in club history.

• June 30, 2000 vs Atlanta: Mets tie club record with ten-run eighth to overcome 8-1 deficit at Shea, capped by Piazza's three-run laser off Mulholland.

Today was also very nice.

In other years I would have thought the game was lost after the Nats tied it up.

This year, for some reason, I was sure they'd go ahead again.

Can't really IGT during the day but I woke up from my nap with the 4-4 score and watched all the fireworks. Good stuff, though I think Mickey left Lugo in too long.

- Yes, d'Arnaud is on the shelf to start the year.

I still would have pr'd for Ramos there. Turned out to not matter although it looked for a while like it might when WR couldn't go 1st to 3rd on the single.

Third catcher or not, you can't be afraid of the 'what if' scenario of the backup getting hurt in the final two (or more) innings.

Don't recall Mickey being shy about that last year so maybe he had a reason for this one. Damned if I can figger out what it was though.

- OK, it's official: Alonso is one big strong boy. That he also seems to have an idea of what he's doing up there just makes it better.

First double was impressive; second one even more so.

He also went chasing after a couple of outside sliders which, unless he proves he can lay off those, is something he'll see a steady diet of starting ... like tomorrow and every day after that.

- Not really sure why Mickey went to Lugo when he did.

Not that Familia looked great, but 22 pitches wasn't horrible especially considering that he should have been out of the inning.

And wouldn't you think Lugo is more likely to give up a HR than Familia ... y'know, one bad curveball?

3 HR last year in 70 innings for JF (1 as NYM, 2 w/OAK) but 22 HRs for Lugo in 2017-18 combined, or about 200 IP.

And you had to know Adams was coming in to PH with just that on his mind. That one is six rows deep in Philly, and 16 rows in the Bronx

- 3:50 game time ... Ugh!

We've got two Pooolers there, right? Good for them!

I think the reluctance about pinch-running for Ramos is about losing his bat if the game remained tied or stayed close.

I think today's managers are always ready for a war of attrition and always want to have one minors weapon in the bag than the other guy.
