I'm already in minor league camp. But hey, at least I went 4-23 in Spring Training before shipping out. That's ... well, OK, it's pretty bad.



I don't know what's going on. It seems like yesterday I was the third- or fourth-ranked second base prospect in baseball. I was a Met at 20, traded for Jay Bruce at 21, and then the Reds turned me into a AAA vet. Being buried behind Brandon Phillips was one thing. But being buried behind Scooter Gennett is bullshit. That's what I'm calling it. Bullshit. Scooter Gennett. I mean, let's be honest, being buried behind Scooter Anybody is bullshit.



But now Bruce is gone (for the second time) and there's room for me here again, perhaps even epistemologically. (Can Jay Bruce and I occupy the same clubhouse at once? This hasn't yet been proven either way.)



Just to be clear how long The Dilson Saga has been unfolding, I acquired by the Mets along with Vic Black in exchange for John Buck and Marlon Byrd. Yeah, I was the only one in that deal without a name beginning with B, but a lot seemed to be going right. I killed it in Binghamton, I wrecked it in Vegas, and (lest it be forgot from the above paragraphs), I was a Met at 20. I was the first, and still the only, Met from Colombia (which, by the way, is http://leaptoad.com/mets/birthplace.phpmis-spelled at the UMDB), I'm the only Dilson in MLB history, and (this can't be understated), I've got the good face. I kind of have a Colombian Jackie Robinson thing going, and that ain't nothing.



So here I am on a minor league deal. The Mets have two infielders hurt, and perhaps three more have to go down before I'm playing at second. The right three too. But I'm NOT a hopeless case. I'm still only 25, and at 25, Jackie Robinson was just getting out of the army.



Centerfield liked me the first time around, so I think I might crash with him when I'm sent up to Syracuse. But I'm looking to play well enough that I don't have to wait for a cholera epidemic to get the call. Those things rarely come, and when they do, you kind of want to stay out of the clubhouse.



So ... Dilson 2019. That has a nice ring to it. What say you? Does it have something more?

Tears it up at AAA and gets traded in a midyear blockbuster that brings the final pennant-winning pieces the Mets need at that time.

Yes, although the latter is probably more likely than the former at this point.



I suppose there is a chance that Herrera finds his mojo in 2019 as abruptly as he lost it in 2016. And it's not like he's ever performed poorly at AAA, really. It's just that after posting an .893 OPS in AAA at 21, nobody thought he'd go backwards. Brandon Phillips was 25 when the lightbulb clicked on, so who knows?

i always had high hopes for him and I was upset when we traded him for Bruce. I was wrong of course, but upset. Sorry to see him go... again.

If it didn't mean removing somebody else from the 40-man roster, I tend to think he'd've gotten the call-up yesterday instead of Guillorme.



The Mets already have two shortstops. What they're a little short on is righthanded bats.

Dilson decided he'd rather live in the Syracuse Mets' world than live without us in somebody else's. (He's re-signed a minor league deal with us after getting only minor league offers from others.)

On the other hand, considering the time Lowrie, Frazier, Canó, and McNeil have spent on on the Injured List — often two or three at the same time — without his name getting called, reality has probably punched him in the nose more than a few times this season.

Dilson represented Syracuse at the AAA All-Star Game, going 1-1 with a walk.
