I'd probably have more of an opinion if I were sure what she's going to do. Says she'll help in “areas of player evaluation, roster construction, technological advancement and health and performance.”

Oh well, good luck. It's not like we can't use a fresh perspective.

It's odd that she'll continue to work for ESPN also, but if she has valuable insight, by all means, bring her on.

why and where is anyone angry?

its a meaningless hire in the scheme of things - much like the Leiter hiring we herd about yesterday. I get why they'd kiss ass to a former player with a meaningless position, i dont get this one - but its still ultimately meaningless.

Went to Stanford, won a gold medal, comes with expertise and authority. Genitalia aside, she may be a less outside-the-box hire than Van Wangenen was.

There are legions of dummies on the cesspool http://www.twitter.bizwww.twitter.biz screaming she doesn't know shit about baseball because girls play softball DUH.

I'm not entirely familiar with her, but I don't see why hiring her (or Leiter or Franco) would be meaningless. It's good to have outside eyes who have been paid to watch and analyze players on other teams.

What needle? Maybe she's a great advisor in one or all of her capacities! What the heck do we know?

I don't know if she'll get more than a token visit to the booth, but the Mets, it's worth noting, have never had a female broadcaster. And outside of the Spanish-language radio booth, half-Pacific Islander Ron Darling has been their only person-of-color broadcaster.

The potential conflict of interest is being both an ESPN employee and a NYM employee is the odd part to me - although maybe it's justified by the fact that baseball isn't one of the two sports the "worldwide leader" covers.

1 and a half sports - all things NFL and only the basketball that involves Lebron
