A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 She was (and will continue to be) and ESPN announcer while working for the Metropolitans. News of this hiring has unsurprisingly angered men all over the internet.https://nypost.com/2019/03/05/mets-add-espns-jessica-mendoza-in-out-of-the-box-hire/https://nypost.com/2019/03/05/mets-add-espns-jessica-mendoza-in-out-of-the-box-hire/
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I'd probably have more of an opinion if I were sure what she's going to do. Says she'll help in “areas of player evaluation, roster construction, technological advancement and health and performance.” Oh well, good luck. It's not like we can't use a fresh perspective.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 It's odd that she'll continue to work for ESPN also, but if she has valuable insight, by all means, bring her on.

I get why they'd kiss ass to a former player with a meaningless position, i dont get this one - but its still ultimately meaningless.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Went to Stanford, won a gold medal, comes with expertise and authority. Genitalia aside, she may be a less outside-the-box hire than Van Wangenen was.

It's good to have outside eyes who have been paid to watch and analyze players on other teams.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I'm shocked and also not shocked at how ignorant people are. Good for Jessica Mendoza, I say.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I like her, but I'll save that for her #hey19 spotlight.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Doesn't really move the needle one way or the other. At some point she'll be in the booth with GKR, and Keith better behave himself.

And outside of the Spanish-language radio booth, half-Pacific Islander Ron Darling has been their only person-of-color broadcaster.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 The potential conflict of interest is being both an ESPN employee and a NYM employee is the odd part to me - although maybe it's justified by the fact that baseball isn't one of the two sports the "worldwide leader" covers.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Yes, but the Mets have are baseball with a Tebow angle, so ... .
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 At least it's not Jason Mendoza.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Supposedly, when Sandy Alderson heard Brodie Van Wagenen got his old job, he called to congratulate him, saying, "Just do one thing for me ... get Mendoza."<GFYCAThttps://thumbs.gfycat.com/SerpentineGeneralAfricanbushviper-size_restricted.gifhttps://thumbs.gfycat.com/SerpentineGeneralAfricanbushviper-size_restricted.gif>
