...announces his retirement. Broke into the bigs in 1998 as a 19-year-old with the Dodgers, and has been equal parts awesome and hilarious since then. Just don't touch his head.

16th on the all-time hits leaderboard. 14th in total bases, 11th in doubles, 30th in HR, 24th in RBI.

I remember seeing/reaping the keeper-league fantasy rewards of that breakout with the Dodgers, and trading him just afterward, figuring he maybe had 3-4 more years in the league as a starter, with none coming close to what he'd already done. How could he? He wasn't THAT good.

He played two decades, and he's still sub-40. Good on him.

Since this was the first I saw of the news, my thought was Wolfie was putting Beltre out there as a “why not” suggestion for third/role player.

Essentially being 2019’s Adrian Gonzalez or Jose Bautista! *rolls eyes*

Except I'd rather have Beltre than Gonzalez, Bautista, OR Todd Frazier, for what it's worth.

Another classic moment: the time he moved the on-deck circle to where he was, rather than listen to the ump's request to move back to the circle.

That's pretty funny, never saw that one.

Great fielder too, even if his style was a bit unorthodox at times.

I also remember when his agent, Scott Boras naturally, claimed to have "suddenly discovered" several years into his career that Beltre was a year younger than previously advertised meaning that he
was too young when first signed to a pro contract making that contract illegal and therefore should immediately be declared a FA.
It didn't work.

Likeable guy, 3000 hit club, aged as gracefully as you possibly can in this league -- a tip of the hat to a career well-played.
