MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 (I'm the last person who should be telling an age joke, but.. )I thought Julio Franco's birth certificate was destroyed when somebody dropped the stone tablet.Later

Can't believe that turd is now dating J-Lo.

(And never being allowed to prove it because of a bigger, egotistical, turd.)Later
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2018 Posted August 23, 2018 For me, it's Jose Oquendo and Jamie Moyer.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Dicky Gonzalez was the first met older than me. Without big sexy, there is no longer any met older than me. [sadface]
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 I'm of the Nunez-Moyer cohort broadly and Oquendo-Ju. Franco parochially.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2018 Posted August 26, 2018 Brian Greer - a guy I have no memory of, and for good reason. He debuted as a 18 y/o just three months after being drafted out of a California HS by the Padres in the 1st round / 8th overall pick. But, despite that pedigree, he landed himself a total of just 4 ML ABs in 1977 & '79, taking an oh-fer for his career. Kicked around the minors thru '83 but his .210 BA wasn't going to earn him another shot. And, of course, Julio Franco. No, not Francisco (a guy who is, at last check anyway, still dead)

But I'm not really interested in my endcaps who were MLB players, I'm more interested in who the first Met who was younger than me and the last Met who was older than me. I never wanted to be merely a big-league player. I wanted to be a Met.I'm almost certain the answer to those are Gregg Jefferies and Julio Franco. The first Met younger than me might be Stan Jefferson, depending what time of day he was born. Otherwise it's David Cone. The last Met older than me was Julio Franco.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Mine are Julian Tavares, who was born in May 1973 and debuted as a 20 year old, and former met Latroy Hawkins, who hung it up in 2015.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 Jose Rijo at the younger end. He debuted 4/5/84, when we were both 19. With the MFYs. Who would have thunk?Jamie Moyer on the older end. Among Mets, I believe it's John Mitchell and Julio Franco. If I'd come out of the womb when I was supposed to instead of overstaying my welcome for three weeks, I would have been older than Dwight Gooden, who debuted two days after Rijo.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted August 28, 2018 Posted August 28, 2018 For Mets, I think it's Todd Hundley and Julio Franco.Jefferies is a month older than me; and I don't think anyone younger came up to the Mets again before Todd.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted September 2, 2018 Posted September 2, 2018 Ricky Seilheimer was the first player to debut younger than me. I don't recall having ever heard of him, but he made is debut as a 19 year old catcher for the Chicago White Sox. Appeared in 21 games and was never heard from again.Julio Franco was the last player older than me. He last played in 2007 as a 48 year old.
