Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 You think Lugo's stuff plays much better at Coors than Vargas'?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 Maybe, but my understanding is that it doesn't provide enough resistance to effectively create the break of curveball pitchers.

He's wrong. Thin air reduces spin rate, which relies on friction. Coors Field particularly diminishes the effectiveness of curves and stinkers. In fact, Rox reliever Chad Bettis is finding success this year with an extremely low spin rate changeup.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 Lugo throws harder than 86 on his fastball, so at least he's got that on Vargas.I don't think Seth will go 8 innings 1 run like Jake, but I think he keeps us in the game. Trouble is today's starter for them looks a bit stronger.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2018 Posted June 20, 2018 I got done with my thing in Denver early today and bought a cheap ticket to this one.I'll be one of the guys rooting for the blue and orange in a sea of purple.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Post-8:00 (EDT) starts after tonight:Sunday July 22 @ Yanx (ESPN) - 8:05Mon Aug 27 + Tues Aug 28 @ Cubs - 8:05, 8:05Friday Aug 31st @ SFG - 10:15Mon Sept 3 (Labor Day) @ LAD 8:05Tues Sept 4th @ LAD - 10:10 So really only 2 late-night games (and only one of those on a school night) plus a handful of starts right at 8 PM. We're even done with the 7:35 games in Cobb County, GA for the season.Although there does remain the possibility of being 'flexed' into another ESPN SNB game; Sun Sept 16 @ Boston, for instance, is listed as 'TBD'
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Mesoraco rips a double down the left field line with the bases loaded. Drives in 2 more. Could be feasting on the Rockies pathetic bullpen early in this one. Lugo up with the bases again loaded.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Bettis needed 33 pitches to get through the top of the 1st for the Rockies. Now Lugo needs to set the Rockies down quickly, before he can catch his breath.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 This has started rather nicely. OutDouble!Single (RBI)!OutSingle!Walk!Double (2RBI)!Walk!Out (Lugo, 9 bat in the 1st)!!!-0 Mets!
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Lugo goes to the curve ball for the 1st time on the 13th pitch of the game. It hangs and Arenado absolutely crushes it to deep left field.
Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Mets tack on another run as Frazier plates Nimmo with a single through the middle.

As I'm about to hit send Frazier commits an error.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 ...another on of those games, huh? 4-2 Mets.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 (edited) Has any reason been given as to why Jose Reyes is the starting shortstop? Is Lugo THAT good that they have to give him a handicap? And, Edgy is pretty correct about this: Maybe, but my understanding is that it doesn't provide enough resistance to effectively create the break of curveball pitchers. The thinner air doesn't create as much of a pressure differential on one side of the ball VS the other. (Bernoulli's principle)Later Edited June 21, 2018 by Guest
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Frazier with some early goat du jour.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Loogs not adjusting well to the thin air. On the other hand, yes, the Fixx. So great. I don't know how they weren't bigger in this country.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Keith may blow a big advertising deal between the Mets and Gatorade.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 That (the GiDP) is the first Colorado grounder that's actually gone at someone tonight with the exception of the one that Frazier effectively turned into a double.Lugo certainly wasn't good tonight but he was also a bit unlucky.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Smith looked like he was in deep danger of getting pegged on that trip. Thanks, Mr. DJ!~
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Thin air helped him run faster. Less resistance.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Would be nice to have a lefty pinch-hitter in this situation.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Mets knock out the Bus and now they face Rus.
