Let's see if we can get another win out of the Fixx. Plus, we have Nimmo.

Lugo, 2-2, 2.49, vs Bettis, 5-1, 4.65.

You think Lugo's stuff plays much better at Coors than Vargas'?

Thin air accelerates the spin rate!

Maybe, but my understanding is that it doesn't provide enough resistance to effectively create the break of curveball pitchers.

Unusual IGT voodoo, recycling a recently used song and in a different city to boot.

You're right. He's wrong. Thin air reduces spin rate, which relies on friction. Coors Field particularly diminishes the effectiveness of curves and stinkers. In fact, Rox reliever Chad Bettis is finding success this year with an extremely low spin rate changeup.

Denver air is different on Wednesdays. Work with me, man!

The phrase you are looking for is either "paying homage" or "adopting best practices." New song selected!

Lugo throws harder than 86 on his fastball, so at least he's got that on Vargas.

I don't think Seth will go 8 innings 1 run like Jake, but I think he keeps us in the game.

Trouble is today's starter for them looks a bit stronger.

I got done with my thing in Denver early today and bought a cheap ticket to this one.

I'll be one of the guys rooting for the blue and orange in a sea of purple.

You changed the song?!? That's even crazier IGT voodoo.
I'm going out back and kill a chicken.

Post-8:00 (EDT) starts after tonight:

Sunday July 22 @ Yanx (ESPN) - 8:05
Mon Aug 27 + Tues Aug 28 @ Cubs - 8:05, 8:05
Friday Aug 31st @ SFG - 10:15
Mon Sept 3 (Labor Day) @ LAD 8:05
Tues Sept 4th @ LAD - 10:10

So really only 2 late-night games (and only one of those on a school night) plus a handful of starts right at 8 PM. We're even done with the 7:35 games in Cobb County, GA for the season.
Although there does remain the possibility of being 'flexed' into another ESPN SNB game; Sun Sept 16 @ Boston, for instance, is listed as 'TBD'

Mesoraco rips a double down the left field line with the bases loaded. Drives in 2 more. Could be feasting on the Rockies pathetic bullpen early in this one. Lugo up with the bases again loaded.

Bettis needed 33 pitches to get through the top of the 1st for the Rockies.

Now Lugo needs to set the Rockies down quickly, before he can catch his breath.

This has started rather nicely.
Out
Double!
Single (RBI)!
Out
Single!
Walk!
Double (2RBI)!
Walk!
Out (Lugo, 9 bat in the 1st)

!!!-0 Mets!

Lugo goes to the curve ball for the 1st time on the 13th pitch of the game. It hangs and Arenado absolutely crushes it to deep left field.

Mets tack on another run as Frazier plates Nimmo with a single through the middle.

Has any reason been given as to why Jose Reyes is the starting shortstop?
Is Lugo THAT good that they have to give him a handicap?

And, Edgy is pretty correct about this:

Maybe, but my understanding is that it doesn't provide enough resistance to effectively create the break of curveball pitchers.

The thinner air doesn't create as much of a pressure differential on one side of the ball VS the other. (Bernoulli's principle)

Frazier with some early goat du jour.

Loogs not adjusting well to the thin air. On the other hand, yes, the Fixx. So great. I don't know how they weren't bigger in this country.

That (the GiDP) is the first Colorado grounder that's actually gone at someone tonight with the exception of the one that Frazier effectively turned into a double.
Lugo certainly wasn't good tonight but he was also a bit unlucky.

Thin air helped him run faster. Less resistance.
